He called probably the time out of the game to pull Miller in the second half (no poor reflection on The Professor, who was one of the game's heros but was nearing the point of being gassed). He rode Miller until Miller was physically done, keeping the max-paid, franchise player on the bench. (And that's not a poor reflection on Wall either. Just one that notes that the team is more important than the individual).

Randy should feel good about the job he did both in the game and leading up to the game.

But he earns his pay from this moment forward. Thibbs is going to make adjustments. Can Randy prepare his team for them and can he have, in place, ways to counteract Bulls' changes?

It wasn't just that it was the right replacement at the right time. From where I was sitting, it looked like the Wizards were on the verge of putting up a bad shot or, more likely, turning it over. A friend watching with me said, "The coach just saved that possession." So many times in the past, he would have just let the team play its way into disaster.

Concur with this. Good observation.

As talented as J.R. Smith? LOL! If we had this year's version of J.R. Smith we'd be much worse off than we are now.

Maybe you ought to leave talent evaluation to the experts, like Ernie Grunfeld.

Can't you just see Ernie on the phone as we speak, trying to find these "sources" and dissuade them from pursuing our star head coach.

With an Ernie alum running the Nuggets, maybe we can trade Randy to Denver.

Does Randy for Faried work in the trade checker?

Actually Wittman didn't get a single vote.

Steve Clifford - 4th
Dwane Casey - 5th
Terry Stotts - 6th
Doc Rivers - 7th
Scott Brooks - T8th
Mark Jackson - T8th
Jason Kidd - T8th

JR Smith played A LOT better to close out the season in the final 3 months. Still wouldn't want him on the Wizards though :D

Smith averaged 14 ppg without a good PG. With the athleticism of JR and his three point shooting ability, a backcourt of Wall and Smith would not be worse off.

Looks like there's a poison pill on the ham sandwich we'd have to add.

Sadly enough, this is probably how Grunfail evaluates talent too.

The top seven or eight players and the coaching are solid when Wall and Nene are playing and reasonably healthy. The coaching IMO is solid.

If he wins two more in the series, or if just one more but every game is reasonably competitive; I'm all for re-signing Coach Wittman.

I expect him to win against Thibodeau either 4-2 or 4-1.

I believe he or Newman, or perhaps players on the team, are connected with some really good analysis and scouting. They are FLEXIBLE. Game one was a coaching masterpiece. Wall was humbled yet competed fiercely defensively, while play making wisely. Beal had 7 assists and 0 turnovers. WHO CARES if they missed shots???? They went in and punched Chicago in the mouth. Beal's even dissing the deep dish pizza.

Signs IMO of the right kind of cockiness. The veteran big brothers all got in the game. Wittman looked calm on the national stage.

Barring a collapse, they're off to the best kind of playoffs. Kudos to Randy and his staff, because the team is peaking with Nene healthy, at the right time of the season.
Bye bye Beal.

Wittman despises analytics, he's said as much repeatedly.

Imo, you cannot let a playoff run in a weak conference detract from his overall body of work.

The team underachieved, he hasn't managed to get anything out of the young players on this roster since he took over, and since he's no longer under contract following the conclusion of this roster the Wizards would be foolish not to do their due diligence and to hire the best candidate available.

I respect the work Wittman has done, and I like that he managed to instill a sense if pride and professionalism, but it's time to move on.
