Legacy Bullets Clips

Post#1 » by hands11 » Tue Jul 22, 2014 6:34 am

I found this will searching for John Hot Plate Williams.

Older timers should enjoy this.

Jeff Malone, John Williams, Bernard Kind, Ledell Eackles, Darrell Walker, Terry Catledge, Steve Colter

That was great, hands!

"This game's in the refrigerator. The door is closed. The butter's getting hard and the Jello's jiggling."

Nobody called a game like Chick Hearn. Stu Lantz still does Laker games!

Watching it I had forgotten how fast Magic Johnson was in transition with the basketball. That Bullets team had some go to scorers with Jeff Malone, Bernard King, and Hot Plate Williams. They really didn't look overmatched against Magic, Byron Scott, James Worthy, Michael Cooper, AC Green and Mychal Thompson. Bernard King was giving it to them. Nothing they could do to stop it...

What a shot by Magic to send the game in the overtime. Of course the Lakers won. :(

It was also a battle of great coaches. Pat Riley vs Wes Unseld. :D
Bye bye Beal.

I remember watching that game live. Wizards were huge underdogs.

Lakers were just a machine back them. They got a rebounds and just attacked you. All game. Every play. All season. For years.

And from the first jump ball. They would bury a team so fast if they weren't ready it would be over after the first quarter. It almost wasn't fair. They had 3 or 4 players running on every play and Magic could go coast to coast with his size and finish or dish it the last second. That if he wasn't doing a full court bounce pass.

For those that missed it. It was something to see. Magic with Worthy running with him to finish. And Cooper. Nixon. AC Green. Amazing.

Bernard King was 34 when he made his return to an all star game, some 6 years after his devastating knee injury. That was quite an achievement.
Bye bye Beal.

Again. Old enough to have seen the return to the AS game.

It was a truly moving moment. Everyone that was an NBA fan regardless of team favor appreciated what he did and were happy for him. B King was a class act. He was loved like Dr J was loved.

No fan of any team disliked either of those players.

Don't mean to spoil the nostalgia, but I also remember this Bernard King

I wish I didn't read that in some ways. I gotta say I'm shocked and disappointed, monte. I was at a wedding years back and Bernard and other NBA players were there ...

The bad part is there were multiple allegations over time. One woman or possibly two could lie together, but not a bunch of women in separate events over time.

I can never understand any pro athlete forcing himself on a woman. Women throw themselves at those guys. Young, wealthy, in great physical condition, famous, and likely better "equipped" than the average male ... Only a really sick dude or somebody who just doesn't accept no would do that.
Bye bye Beal.

It was already news when he came to the Bullets (on top of various alleged drug problems and other issues). I did my best to block it out and try to enjoy his comeback, but honestly, when he started fading out and rehabbing on his own, without communicating with the team about his intentions (would he retire, sit out the season, what?), it all started to come back.

When I was younger, it was a tough realization that these guys rocketed into view because of their basketball skills, not their citizenship. Every player isn't going to be like Bill Russell or Wes Unseld off the court.

In contrast, I don't recall ever hearing anything bad about Albert King. Maybe it didn't run in the family.

Albert married a girl I went to HS with. He was a good dude who was kind enough to pass me the ball when we beat her twin brothers (my very close friends) playing two on two. I scored the most that game. :)

I recall Al being extremely shy and very down to earth. NO WAY was he anything like that, monte. He's a good dude from all I could tell 30 years back.

I lost touch over the years with the brothers and the family he married into. Last I know of Albert was a restaurant owner/manager. His wife, of course a beautiful girl, was also successful.
Bye bye Beal.

Bernard would have been treated very differently in this era of social media and information technology. All his missteps would have been put on full blast. No way he could have resumed his career unscathed.

We're still hearing about what Lance Stephenson did when he was in HS.
Bye bye Beal.

I wonder if this instant information era has resulted in better behavior, or whether instead it's the same behavior but now everyone knows about it. I would think pride, shame, humility or some other force might prod at least a few people back onto the straight and narrow path.

Or maybe with the increased money and non-stop ego massage players receive, behavior is worse now. I'll bet Nivek has a spreadsheet on this.

Pretty important that both versions of this be archived in this thread.
