YOUR Washington Bullets are 39-28 AND 8-13 in their last 21 games. With 15 games left in the season, they are 8 games shy of being the 9th seed and 1/2 game back from homecourt advantage in the first round. Which do you prefer? I prefer what gets Ted Leonsis to #FireGrunfeld. This will be a recurring theme.

The Wiz are coming off a big W over the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night. You could say it was the first quality win over a good opponent in some time. The Wizards nearly squandered a 25 point lead, which they always do, but fought the surge of the Blazers for an 8 point win.

The Utah Jazz are looking a lot different this time around that the Wiz are facing them. Trey Burke is now coming off the bench, Alec Burc has been out for the season and the Jazz have plugged in rookie Dante Exum and Rodney Hood as the starting back court with good results. Also missing is Enes Kanter who is now with OKC and in his place is Rudy Gobert who has just been insane defensively as legitimately a one man zone defense. Utah has the best defense in the NBA since the All-Star break and they are 9-1 in their last 10 games.

Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors remain the biggest offensive pieces for the Jazz.

Since the Wizards never win in Utah, I gotta chalk this up as an ugly L with how Quinn Snyder will outcoach Wittless.

HERE'S your lineups.

I have the Wiz with a 41% chance of winning this one.

That's the spirit! :D

With four straight wins and the last one coming against a good team, this could be a trap game. But it doesn't have to be if the guys show up. Let's do this!

The over/under on Rudy G's rebounds is 20. Beal should score 25 plus against Rodney Hood.

One thing I will say as that the Wizards bigs usually seem to keep top rebounding bigs off the glass.

Drummond had 9, 16 and 5 rebounds respectively in our three games against Detroit.
Love has had 8, 6 and 5 boards respectively in our three games against Cleveland.
Gasol had 9, 13, and 10 boards in our three games against Chicago
Cousins had 6 boards in our game against Sacramento.
Jordan had 8 boards when we played the Clippers.
Whiteside had 2 boards in our game against Miami.

I'd love to see Gobert reject Seraphin. Also haven't watched Hood play much, is he bad defensively? I kinda enjoyed watching Burks and Beal go at it last season.

The Wizards rank 4th in rebound rate. I didn't see that coming before the season started.

Rudy Gobert and Utah's defense have been unbelievable since the ASG. This is going to be difficult, if not more difficult than the Portland game.

I really like this Utah team. I have been watching them a bunch on league pass. Teams basically do not score at the rim when Gobert is in the game, and he and Favors are a devastating defensive duo.

Our backcourt needs to be great to win this game, and we need to limit Gordon Hayward. He's their offensive engine.

If they can add some backcourt scoring and/or as Exum improves in the future, they could be really, really good.

I didn't realize just how well the Jazz have been playing. In their last 15 games they have only 3 losses, by 5 pts, 3 pts and 1 pt.

Jack Cooley is on the Jazz roster.

Liked him a lot at Notre Dame. IIRC, he had a real decent summer league years back. I know he made some money playing abroad.

I thought he'd be a decent PF at this level.
Bye bye Beal.

I'm really looking forward to this game :D The Wizards are a team I really enjoy watching and John Wall is one of my favorite players! I would say Utah wins this game 91-83, but that's my guess.

Good luck guys :D

If we can keep Go-bot off the glass like we did with Whiteside recently, we have a good chance.

Our back court will eat theirs if they come out like they did in the last 2 games. I think Pierce is an X factor in this one, how he plays may determine the outcome. If he nails his looks from 3 the game is ours.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Seems like Utah always gets us out there . Maybe my recollection is wrong but it feels that way .

I like everyone on this Utah team except for Trey Burke, he should not be considered part of their future core if Utah is smart. Little chucker he is with awful defense. That said , on this particular night Burke will probably go for 30+ with 6 threes

I like their rebuild. Its a talented young team.

Not feeling good about this West Coast Trip.

Hope we can come out of it 2-2

I'm just not at all confident in Randy's approach. I'm more then fine with the defense first message and that we are a defensive team. But on offense. I don't like the message at all. This idea that everyone is equal and just move the ball some side to side and take the first open shot. That doesn't maximize our talent. Its to formless so you never know what you are going to get short of we want to play off the defense in transition and fast break and that I expect Nene's usage to be to high with Gortats to low.

Are we posting Nene back to back plays ? Shooting 12 three or 26 three ? When is Wall driving and in attack mode ? Is Wall taking three or not ? How about a quick walk up 3 ? Is Gortat quick hitting PnR a part of that or not ? What are the go to sets ? What's plan B ?

Script the Wizards first 4-5 offensive plays... What will Randy have them come out doing if anything ? Only go to play I know Randy has is left post Nene. I would much rather have Nene at the FT line running M Gasol option plays.

If we aren't quickly attacking the rim and are forced to be a perimeter team, then this is going to be a long night unless Wall, BB and PP get in sync attacking. And Gooden needs to spread the floor. And you might even need some KLife with the magic hook.

If we are playing the mid range jumper game, we will not be efficient. Its a soft attack. Weak. 2 pts at a time and solid D is not a winning formula.

Me, I would spread the floor with Gooden and go right at Gobert with Gortat. Starting Gooden alone would have them adjusting their plans. Gobert is good, but he is still young. I would have Wall attacking the rim as well with the floor spread. And kick out to Beal and PP so they can get up some early 3s to enforce the open floor concept. That would be my first attack. I would follow that up small dose of Nene at the top of the key with option plays where he can pass or attack top down. I have no stats on it but I think he draws more fouls that way as he makes a B line and its more clear he is getting bumped. And if he gets an angle, he is dunking.

I would attack their strength. Go right at Gobert and try to get his butt on the bench. I would let them know right off the bat, its going to be a long night. I would make it tough on the refs and force them to make the calls. No way am I give into the idea of giving up the paint to them. A would put on a full all assault right at Gobert. Right at the paint. Wall, Gortat and then Nene.

For Haywood. He is probably going to get his and you might have to concede that some, but see if Paul can draw a few fouls. Then put Otto on him. At least Otto has the length.

It might not work but I like the chances of it working more then no specific offensive plan, which is what I expect from Randy. Sadly.

Woah! Just checked out there schedule since te break and theyve only allowed more than 90 twice (91 and 97). A ton of games in the low 80s and high 70s. I knew they had been playing better, but those are monster defensive numbers since the break. As much as I want to see us continue getting our mojo back, I'll expect a loss and be very pleased with a win. Whoever said this is a trap game is wrong, this is a extremely quality opponent and if we are not prepared thats a major black eye to the coaching staff.

This is a game it would be real nice for our big men's Js to be on and our backcourt to dominate. Hopefully thier shooting also comes back down to earth after their eruption against our fellow SE brethren the other night.
