Not exactly. Keep in mind that I'm not rating international players at all -- just haven't had a chance to do any real work evaluating what their numbers mean or the relative quality of the various leagues around the world.

White's rating was that of a late 1st to early 2nd round pick. Getting him at 49 isn't bad.

That said, White isn't all that impressive a prospect. For a PF, he's undersized and slow, but he does leap well. And he can shoot the three. Rebounding is decent, but not spectacular. The athleticism markers I look for in the numbers kinda echo the combine measures/times -- acceptable 2pt% may reflect leaping ability; relatively few steals and blocks may indicate the lack of quickness. Definitely a guy worth taking in the 2nd round, though.

gotta read the rest of the thread but I'm guessing maybe a middleclass man's
Dekker. Hopefully not a poor man's Dekker although it's just a 49th overall pick
so anything you get you're thankful for.

When was the last time we had a decent white guy? Steve Blake?

Mike Miller imo was very solid for us that one year stint, great all-around game

His game reminds me exactly of Terrence Jones (who also spent a bit of time developing in the D-League)

I'm now being told that Aaron White "definitely" will go overseas by a person w/knowledge of the situation #WizardsTalk #NBA @CSNWizards

Given the certainty of the rumor, it sounds like EG already has a plan to add another veteran stretch four. It might just be Drew Gooden, but I really hope that he is making a play for Terrence Jones using our TPE.

Interesting that they want him to go overseas rather than the D League - where they could call him up if an injury happened.

Jones for the TPE would be an excellent move.

If he goes overseas, the clock on his rookie scale contract doesn't start. If plays in the D-League, it does.

Does that matter for second round picks?

Yeah because 2nd rounders only have 2 or 3 year deals, they hit free agency faster

Good question. I guess it doesn't. You can sign a 2nd round pick to anything you want. We would have to use a portion of the MLE to sign him to a contract lasting longer than 2 years. Or we could use the vet minimum (or BAE) to sign him to a 1-year or 2-year deal.

I don't understand why you'd encourage a kid like him to go overseas instead of overlooking his development yourself..

White is a 6-foot-9 forward with a high basketball IQ and a knack for scoring around the rim and getting to the free throw line. The Strongsville, Ohio, native finished his college career as the Hawkeyes No. 2 all-time leading scoring and No. 3 rebounder.

Grunfeld told reporters, "and then we'll make decisions as we go along.

"He can run the floor well. He's very athletic. He's versatile. He can make an outside shot. He's a solid, consistent player."

Because the Wizards don't really use the D-League, Rice was sent there to banish him on his way out.

The main drawback to him staying and going to dleague to "develop" is he'd take up a roster spot. If he goes overseas he doesn't count as part of the 15 (like Satoransky).

Plus they don't have to pay him, someone else will.
