Wall playing through ankle sprain

Post#1 » by ozthegap » Wed Dec 23, 2015 1:33 am

John apparently has been playing through a high ankle sprain for the last 6 games. They need to sit his ass down. We aren't doing anything this season why risk the health of our only legit player?

Maybe because it's what Wall wants?

He's made a huge effort not to miss games since 2013

FWIW, CSN reports that Wall is battling thru a bone spur too. This is one tough guy. It's been fun to watch him grow in his leadership abilities as well as mature his game. He's seems like a good guy who wants to do the right thing.

Wall is the real deal. Period.

Arenas had structural injuries that he foolishly tried to play through.

The nature of Wall's injuries are simply a matter of his pain tolerance, which is extremely high. The dude is a warrior

If Nene had the same injuries you know he wouldn't be out there.

Really hope we can get some sustained blowouts so he can not have to play extended minutes each damn night.

Sit him till he's healthy or at least healthier. If he suffers something more serious on top because he's playing through an injury, this franchise is dunzo.

Arenas tore his ACL and 7 months later was playing 40 minutes a night.

That was a recipe for disaster. And it was.

We're talking about an ankle sprain, not a torn ACL and cartilage damage.

Anybody that's played organized has probably played through a sprained ankle at one point or another. It sucks, but there's not really much risk of further injury and I can guarantee you that he's getting the best treatment imaginable.

I'd be far more worried if he played through tendonitis or an injury like Beals recurring stress injury.

Well, not really. A sprain, by definition, is ligament damage -- either a stretching of the ligaments or a tear. Wall's injury is a high ankle sprain (to the ligaments connecting the tibia to the fibula), which is typically caused by a twisting or rotational injury. High ankle sprains take longer to heal than typical ankle sprains -- 6+ weeks is a normal recovery time.

And, there is indeed risk of further damage. The ligaments are in a weakened condition, which increases Wall's risk for re-injuring or aggravating the injury. In addition, sprains often lead to more sprains and further complications.

While it's admirable that Wall is playing through the injury, it would be better if he could get a few weeks rest to let things heal. Hopefully he'll be lucky and avoid further injury.

Also, Arenas didn't tear his ACL. It was meniscus damage.

It wasn't a torn ACL. He tore his meniscus. Which is actually worse. Ligaments could/can be repaired or replaced. Medical science is improving treatment of cartilage damage, but it's nowhere close to as effective as ligament repair.

Agree that it was totally insane he was playing 40+ minutes so soon after a meniscus tear.

Seconded.
Bye bye Beal.

really sucks when you're legitimately unsure of how much you'd improve if beal was playing

It doesn't suck. It just shows that he is easily replaceable.

We have 3 guys taking his minutes now

-KO, a raw rookie who has hardly played.
-Temple, a journeyman on a min deal.
-Gary Neal, another journeyman on a $2 million deal.

and yet we are 6-4 without Beal, 5-9 with him. Just shows he just isn't that valuable.
