I agree.

If the Wizards give up on Pecherov too soon they'll regret it.

He shoots threes, is mobile, can rebound, and is very young.

He's going to get many buckets in this league.
Bye bye Beal.

Another day another sprained ankle for Pech per Ivan's blog

Oleksiy Pecherov sat out of today's practice with a sprained left ankle. I didn't get a read on how bad it is but I'll find out more.

Trade him for a future first while he still has the "picked in the first round but hasn't played much" status.

I wish we could, but he showed so little last year that the mystery may already be solved to many GM types.

Right now I think Pesh is worth little more than cap filler at this point.

I don't think he's played enough to be officially classified as a bust but unless he takes a huge step up in terms of his development, I think he's well on his way to being one.

I disagree with the notion that he's a rebounder. He certainly gives effort on the boards, but honestly he's not quick or strong enough to corral most rebounds.

Right now he's pretty much a one-trick pony. A 7-0 footer that stands around the perimeter waiting to jack up a shot.

My biggest concern over his game right now is that he seems completely clueless out there. Guy just doesn't seem to have a good idea of how the game is played in the L. Maybe its just so much faster than Turkey or Greece or whereever he used to play. He looks like 9 steps too slow.

Seems reasonably athletic for his size. Appears to have a decent stroke, but is an absolute joke on the defensive end. At this point if he could turn into a Matt Bullard/Pat Garrity type of player I would be pleased, but that may even be a stretch...

I think its a little too soon to pronounce Pesh to be a waste of oxygen...but I don't think we need to wait too much longer. If the guy is still playing the "Jack the airball trey" game by the year's midpoint, we can probably put him down at the end of the bench and ask him to distribute towels.

That said, I think we can put his performance thusfar down to him being either unconfident or uncoachable or both. I think he sits out there because he is almost suffering from nerves to the point that he just isn't processing the game. If he continues to lack confidence, whether or not he has talent to play at this level, it just won't matter. If we see him actually mixing it up and being fully engaged, then we have a chance to see what he's got. I just hope Pesh gets the confidence to give it a real go.

What i don't understand is that he's even there. Fine he's hit a few, whoop tee friggen doo. I doubt when we were scouting this clown we were impressed with his outside shot and that why we drafted him. Nearly all of pech footage right after the draft was of him "dominating" the post. We need him for his inside "presence", why is he even out at the perimeter, i'm sure EFJ wouldn't let BTH camp out there. He need to be forced to grab some huge rebounds and that doesn't happen 20 away from the hoop.

So far, my call is he sucks, maybe better put: so far he has sucked. I just don't see him contributing anything more but some funny one liners.

I think you guys are being way too quick to throw this guy out. He looks like a very good outside shooter for a 6-7 guy, much less 7ft. He is fairly agressive as a rebounder. He also seems to be pretty confident in his abilities. If he seemed clueless out there, then someone needs to ask his coach why? The guy only sniffed the court briefly all season long. I thought Blatche looked just a s clueless his rookie year.
Big guys need more time to grow into their bodies.
I think he has a chance to be a real solid player for many years.

Pech needs just 2 things right now to start developing his potential.
1) Ankle tape
2) Some PT in games.

I'd work him hard in summer league as soon as he can go. And I would start him out this season in the D-League.

Pesh needs to stay healthy. I still recall coach Harvey Grant raving about Pecherov's work ethic. Grant basically said that Pesh was a lock to be a solid NBA player simply because he works so damn hard.

I think it's too early to give up on him. He's a legit 7-footer with a good shooting touch, decent rebounding skills and an Arenas-like work ethic. I don't know if his upside is high enough to be a full-time starter, but I think it's probable that he'll hang around the NBA for at least 5-8 years as a role player. I think his floor is that of a Raef LaFrentz or Brian Cook.

He hasn't given us even that so far.

:o Pech will be around for 5-8 years? We all appreciate his work ethic, but he has shown zero out on the floor, he misses quite badly during games and shows poor decision-making.
If Pech has ANY chance of sticking around, he's got to at-least be able to hit those treys he loves to jack. I'm for sending him to the NBDL for the year so that he can get some playing Time & giving JV spot defensive duties this year while he learns the ropes.

He also hasn't given us a full season. With health... blah blah blah... you know the rest. But seriously, I want to see this guy after 80 or so games before we judge him critically. With our depth at big man I'm not sure how much we'll see, though.

Oleksiy Pecherov says he still has some soreness in the left ankle he sprained back in June but expects to be ready to go all out this week.

Again with the ankle  Pech needs to be put down, this horse can't run.

Still hoping that we can trade Pech before the Wiz med staff gets to him...

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

This sounds like good news...According to Ivan Carter the Wiz have hired a rehab specialist

"-The team has added a new member to the training staff. He's a rehabiliation specialist. I'll find out more about this addition and flesh it out this week."

Does an ankle sprain really last 4 months or longer? It's been the entire friggin offseason!

Are they even sure its just an ankle sprain? Didn't this same wonderous medical staff mis-diagnose his ankle injury last year???

I have no hope for Pech. I didn't like the pick before the draft and I especially don't like it now. Even if he could nail an open shot & rebound, which I haven't seen him do, he can't stay healthy long enough to even work on his game, much less play at a high level if and when he gets on the court.

Right now Pech amounts to a 14th or 15th man on a roster (i.e. a victory cigar) or filler to be included in a trade.
