here we go...see this is what Maryland does. They win games like this to get my hopes up and then completely blow it when the pressure is REALLY on (next week against FSU). PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG TERPS!!!!!!

22 and 23 in the rankings this week. There are 6 teams in the 20-30 range in both polls from the ACC. At some point one team has to break away. With FSU coming to Maryland this week once again they are given the chance to break away AGAIN.

Huge win for the Maryland basketball team tonight, beat #6 Michigan State pretty nicely. Though the bigmen are still question marks, I really like the backcourt group.

Are backcourt is pretty sick now if are front court just hold court we will be okay. If we win one more game in this tourney guarnteed a top 25 spot next week which is something I didn't expect from this team all year.

Hayes is really impressing me this season. He's basically everything you want out of your starting point guard - good ball-handler, good passer, doesn't turn it over, good shooter, can penetrate and hit the mid-range shot, etc.

As for Vasquez, he's very erratic but the guy is just fun to watch.

I really liked what I saw out of them today, but I also took it with a grain of salt since Gary Williams is known for his ability to coach big games.

I only got to see the second half (listened to first half on radio while driving home) but I thought Greivis really adjusted well in the second half. He seemed to be immediately double teamed as soon as he touched the ball (was this happening in the first half?) but he drove and set up his teammates for an easy layup almost every time.

I just love the thought that this was a half-time adjustment and that Gary was a good enough coach to see and solve the problem and that GV was a good enough player to adjust and switch his game.

Neal and Bowie also came up huge in this game. I love the little things that make college basketball so much better than the pros.

It's just nice to have two quality points in the same backfield. It's a completly different feel watching Maryland over the Wizards just because of the make-up of the team. Vasquez played exceptionally well against USA and believe he is capable of putting together a POY type season or completly imploding come ACC time :).

OMG it's time to quit the small ball experiment. Georgetown whupped MD in the Old Spice Classic.
If there not going to play defense they'll lose and that rotation doesn't play defense. The Gonzaga and Georgetown games showed me this team isn't hungry enough.
Et tu Bilas.

Maryland doesn't have much choice as far as small ball goes. Dupree, Goins and Burney are the only true bigs (6-8+) and they are all horrible. Losing Gilchrest has destoyed the front line. I think they can get by if they don't face teams with huge frontcourts like Gonzaga and Georgetown. I was shocked they beat Michigan State, but they were without their big guy Suton.

The other thing they can do is end the Milbourne at the 4 experiment. But who do you play at the 4? Dave Neal? He's too unathletic. Dino Gregory would be my best guess. Jin Soo Kim is too slender and isn't ready yet. He's a 3 right now. Go with Burney at center. At least you have a shotblocker there. Tell him never to shoot unless it's a dunk and just block shots and rebound. Unfortunately, the play Michigan Wednesday which runs the same Princeton stuff that Gtown ran.

This weekend was quite depressing.

But yeah this team has zero lowpost game, and we don't have great shooters either, so we can't even mimic a mid-major program.

Georgetown? :)

And big late-2nd-half turnovers.

We're playing rock solid defense, though.

WTF is wrong with Vasquez? ANOTHER missed free throw? Didn't he hit, like, 35 straight prior to this game.

In other news, Milbourne is playing awesome.

Vasquez...90+% ft shooter....goes 1/2

Hayes...92% ft shooter...goes 1/2

We're just shooting ourselves in the back.

Name of the game: hitting free throws down the stretch.

We couldn't do it and lost by the slimmest of margins.
