+1

Today, Alex Len showed his game. Turgeon said after the game that he told Len that Plumlee treats him like he's his little brother. He pissed Len off and made him mad. Seemed to bring the best out of Alex today.
Bye bye Beal.

Awesome win and a great game, but good lord, those turnovers were just inexcusable.

Terps were looking like John Wall in the 4th quarter of that Bucks game.

There were about 25 BIG TIME recruits at this game.

Both football and basketball.

Hopefully they were impressed. :D

Hopefully they don't mind profanity in the stands. We had a bunch of chants that I'm guessing the tv folks were not too happy about.

Coach K after the game: "If it was such a rivalry they'd still be in the ACC".

Which recruits came? Do you have a list? I heard Jalen Tabor was there, but that's all I know.

This was my first time watching Len. He plays smart and rarely forces the issue. He uses his size well, and showed good touch on his FTs. He'll never put on enough weight to be a super-heavyweight a la Hibbert, but he might add enough to become a Pau-type. I'd definitely be happy to take him in the draft.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

Let’s talk about Alex Len: The 7-foot-1 sophomore from Ukraine got paid Saturday. Settle down, NCAA. No runners were involved. But the young man clearly elevated his NBA draft stock with his grown-man performance in Maryland’s 83-81 victory over No. 2 Duke, a crucial victory for the Terrapins' at-large résumé. Seth Allen's late free throws sealed the win after a furious late push by the Blue Devils turned Maryland’s 80-72 lead into an 81-all tie in the final seconds. But Len’s performance was the difference. He was a star (19 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks), while Duke counterpart Mason Plumlee (4 points, 2-for-7) struggled.

The Terrapins don’t have any postseason guarantees right now. It’s a soft bubble but they’re still on it. Right now, the Terps are on Joe Lunardi’s “First Four Out” list, but every game on their remaining ACC slate is winnable. Maryland, however, needs this Len every night. He had failed to crack double figures in three previous losses. But on Saturday, he showcased the talent that has fueled the NBA lottery buzz that currently surrounds him. If he gives the Terps that juice over the next six games, they might not lose again in the regular season.

With this win, I think a 20 win, 8-8 in ACC play season will be good enough to get the Terps into the tourney. Two quality wins(NC State being the other)and no real terrible losses.

Remember with 68 teams getting bids it's easier than it used to be.

The Terrapins actually have 6 conference games remaining.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/co ... sports_pop
The next hurdle is Boston College (11-14, 3-9), which has shown some signs of life in a one-point home loss to Duke and a near-upset at Florida State.

After that, Maryland faces Clemson, has road trips to Georgia Tech and Wake Forest, a home date with North Carolina and the season finale at Virginia.

Bracket analysts remain bearish on the Terps. Both ESPN.com’s Joe Lunardi and Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com had the Terps listed on their “First four out.” Andy Glockner of Sports Illustrated wrote that, “Home wins over the Blue Devils and N.C. State look nice, but Maryland’s poor nonconference schedule likely means more than that will be required a month from now for admission.”

Mike Greenfield's Team Rankings NCAA Basketball Bracketology Projections gives Maryland a 19% chance as of 2/18/13. The odds are still against the Terps.

http://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basket ... acketology

A 3-3 finish would make Maryland 9-9 in the ACC and 21-10 overall. It would still not be good enough according to Team Ranks' projection.
Bye bye Beal.

This is why those who don't watch a lot of Terps games shouldn't judge Len based on the Duke game.

Me, too. Turgeon's not as good a coach as I hoped and their guards are horrific. The surprising thing is they got whipped on the boards.
Bye bye Beal.

Maryland probably needs to beat UNC and Virginia, and probably win at least 2 games in the ACC Tournament. I don't think Lunardi had Maryland in even after the Duke win.

I'm a Turgeon fan and find his honesty refreshing, but he goes overboard with brutal honesty too often, imo.
“Start of the second half, James Padgett has a 3-point play opportunity, goes up weak – shoots an air ball six feet short. And that’s your senior,” Turgeon said.

“It just seemed like we were standing in quicksand all night – standing watching. They just seemed quicker to the ball all night. All night. First play of the game was a loose ball. They pick it up. They lay it in for a basket. I don’t get it and it’s hard for me. My team is a challenge every day to figure out what I’m going to get.”

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/t...,6702583.story

You don't need to throw college kids under the bus - especially a guy like Padgett who looks like he's always hustling out there and doesn't complain that mediocre freshmen are getting playing time that he should probably be getting.

He also made a comment about how he's never in his life coached a team that didn't want to win as much as he did. We get it, Turg. You're frustrated with the team. But talk to them about it; don't go to the press after a tough loss and publicly brutalize them.
