Lol btw Ruz and CCJ, I didn't mean offense, and please post more old videos because I love them. I just meant to say that if you saw a bunch of your friends discussing MASH and Cheers everyday, you might go up and say, "Hey, you know Mr Robot is halfway decent you might wanta watch."

And Jim, I promise I'll make one of your shows one day. I'm sort of waiting for a funeral, currently. But, one day.

I'll be playing with the Stewart Sisters at the Westover Market in the Beer garden on Wed Aug 12th.
I think we play from 6-8 or something like that.

Come on out. Monte can vouch.

Yep, and that's close enough to DC (and not far from my father's house) that I might even try to catch some of it, work permitting.

Bump for Jim's show tomorrow (presumably still on). Don't think I can make it, but well worth it if you can. Great singing and great playing.

Dammit -- I have to be in NYC tomorrow.

Keep posting the dates, Jim. One of these days we'll make it.

barelyawake wrote:CCJ, Ruz, etc... Guys I like all the music you post. But, you know, music didn't die in 1990. There's tons of good music you'd like if you were to put a little effort into research. There are certainly better punk bands now than anytime since 1985. Better underground rap. Better folk. Better jazz. Better rock. I'll take J Roddy, Black Keys, Jack White, Queens of the Stoneage and Death Cab over anything coming out in the 1980's (except maybe the Police and Talking Heads). Just saying. You aren't old until you act it.

Some might say music was born in 1990 - that's when Pearl Jam was formed. Btw, they are still alive and kicking and likely the best band in the world - so I'm not going apologize for liking them more than Death Cab  . I'm actually a fan of the Black Keys and like some of Jack White's music, fwiw. I'm not as diverse in my musical tastes as you are, but if you post any newer rock bands that really rock, I'd be happy to listen. As far as the 80's, I thought it was - all in all - a bad decade for music. The early/mid 60's through early 70's was probably the best.

Edit - My 2 favorite tv shows right now are Mr Robot and Human, so there.

A performance by my son last weekend. This one was at the Centennial Celebration for Anthony Quinn. Joe received a scholarship from the Quinn Foundation a couple years ago, and they invited him to perform at their fund-raiser/celebration.

Wow, kid is a phenom - makes it look easy. That's probably what happens when thousands of hours of work combines with excellent talent.

I'd love to check it out if I was still in the NOVA area.

I would only break my silence to announce this, mostly to doc and dobro, pussy riot and massive attack are playing in England to open perhaps, and I say perhaps but I mean definitely, the greatest art piece in our lifetime -- Banksy's Dismaland (an entire amusement park mocking capitalism, corporatism and Disney). I have to book tickets. I don't care what it costs at this point. Check the pics. It is, beyond any art piece in our lifetime, f'ing brilliant. period. exclamation point.

I'll be playing with one of the Stewart Sisters Saturday from noon to 2 at Historic Green Spring (ffx Co park)
4603 Green Spring Road
Alexandria, VA

It'll be a little different from a regular Stewart Sisters gig with only one sister present.

"Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)"

Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope, with this heavy load
Trying to, touch and reach you with,
heart and soul

OM M M M M M M M M M M M M M
M M M My Lord . . .

PLEASE take hold of my hand, that
I might understand you

Won't you please
Oh won't you

Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope, with this heavy load
Trying to, touch and reach you with,
heart and soul

OM M M M M M M M M M M M M M
M M M My Lord . . .

PLEASE take hold of my hand, that
I might understand you
Bye bye Beal.

I lost my virginity to this track in '59. On the hood of my dad's Corvette. Back in my formative years.

The other day I made some new friends. This song was playing on my playlist. I couldn't help but dance to this.

edit- I think I jumped the gun here. The gig at the Hamilton is a private event

Gig alert

(cliffnotes version)
Difficult Run String Band scored a huge (for us) gig at the Hamilton in downtown DC.
We play there on Nov 11th which I believe is a Wed night from 7-930.

(long version)
We finished a CD back in the late winter. I was not real happy with the result but was
overruled on continuing to work on it in favor of going with what we had. I felt that
it wasn't nearly good enough and would fail to fulfill what I felt was it's principle
purpose of being a marketing tool for the band. We started selling the CD at gigs.
Someone at a gig who bought the CD works at the Hamilton and liked it so much
he contacted us to play there. Frankly, I'd pretty surprised. And I also had to eat
some crow.

I don't remember who first recommended these guys on this thread, but a several years ago someone recommended the Arkells b/c they wrote a song about Gilbert Arenas (Agent Zero). Anyways, they're a really good Canadian band and I went to their show last night in upstate New York. Awesome--excellent show. Best part was it was a free concert! Their latest record, "High Noon" has some bangers
