Season Opener happy hour

Post#1 » by dobrojim » Fri Oct 10, 2008 4:51 pm

I don't think it's too early to start this thread....

my fav place for pre-game is DA-RFDs just north of the PhoneBooth
on F street. My only caveat is the same as last year....I'll have a
youngin' in tow and theoretically at least need a table to sit at
although we did get away with not having one when I met Jason
and Cramer and ??? (too many beers, forgetting the others), before
one of the Travelier playoff games.

For anyone wondering opening night is Wed 10/29 vs NJ at 7pm.

I'm usually down for these but my wallet might be singing a different tune. Let me hunt for some el cheapo tix and I'll have a more definite answer.

well with the overall level of pessimism prevalent maybe
the season opener will be more like part one of a wake,
but since once again, I'm an AllStar package holder I
(with younger daughter) will be in attendance tonight.

Traffic and work permitting, that is if I can get there in time,
I would not mind stopping by DA-RFD's before the game.
Having met a number of RealGMers before, I'll know you
if I see you. If others that I've not met want to look for
me, I'll most likely be wearing my certified Caron East AllStar
jersey and trying to drink/order some IPA. If anyone can get
a table, that would be good since the bouncers will tell me
my daughter can't be "at the bar" with me.

not seeing any replies, I'm not sure I'll bother trying to go....

I'll stick to my usual....poor a beverage into a plastic cup after I
park and walk over to the phone booth...there, I just saved $5 or more

^ Yeah, I'm watching this debacle from the safety of my living room. I'm still having my own little "happy hour" though. I've been meaning to add variety to my beer consumption to I'm trying Foster's for the first time.

I will be down later in the season. Just been to busy as of late at work to take the time to even think about getting tickets.
I am Scabs.

Foster's. It's Australian for....shoving our crappy seconds onto other countries and making a buck.

yeah that was my lame ass...

I was trying to cheer up my daughter who got bummed after halftime...

she was refused entry to the FanStore since I was holding her ticket
so she was distraught about that. So I tried to cajole her into "showing
her moves" ...I didn't think it was going to work but then all of a sudden
she said she would (dance) if I would. There you have it.

ps - if your goofy enough to wear one of those blue/gold wigs from
the disasterous POR game of a couple seasons ago, you're more likely
to be put on the dance cam, no matter how lame your dancing.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed. I'm not saying it wasn't good but it didn't live up to the commercials (as if anything ever does) and it's not worth the extra expense that comes a long with imports.

Next up on my list is Bass (the list isn't in alphabetical order).

IPAs are where it's happening
interesting and complex like a fine wine
not to mention enhanced EtOH content
:D

Foster's is Aussie Budweiser and you know what
they say about Bud...Nothing beats a Bud
(I'd rather have nothing), life's too short to drink
mediocre beer.

a couple of my fav IPAs

Green Flash West Coast IPA VERY good if pricey at ~$12.00/six

Mojo IPA from Boulder Beers - nice citrussy hoppiness

My absolute fav was Tuppers Hop Pocket Ale, formerly brewed by Dominion,
which fell victim to the corporate know-nothings at Bud after Dominion was
bought out.

We can try to make it to DA-RFDs sometime. They usually have a couple worthy
IPAs available. Dogfish Head 60 min IPA isn't bad. The 90 Min version is a bit too
strong for my tastes with an ABV of 9+% IIRC.

The Stone IPAs are really good.

This isn't an IPA but it is the season.

I'm a big fan of Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale. It's not for everyone
and I must say that I really don't care that much for most
of the pumpkin ales I've tried, but I really like Smuttynose.

Smuttynose also makes a pretty good IPA.

In case anyone isn't familiar with IPAs, they are VERY
hoppy. IPA stands for India Pale Ale. This style of beer
was created by the brits who used extra hops to
act as a preservative when shipping brew to the troops
over in India in the 1800s.

New Holland is another IPA I've tried recently that I really like.
They call it the Mad Hatter.

Lagunitas is another good IPA.
