Best player available, every time. If the team believes Rubio is the second best player in the draft, and we have the second pick, we better take him. Worry about how he'll fit in with our current backcourt later. Worst case, if things truly don't work out well, we can trade him later to a team he's a better fit for.

Agreed. At #2, we should definitely draft Rubio. That's a no-brainer. After we draft him, we should look to trade him. Best-case scenario would be to trade up to #1 and acquire Griffin. Second-best scenario would be to use the pick plus filler to trade for Bosh or Amare. Third-best would be to trade the pick to Portland, dump a bunch of bad contracts, and acquire Rudy and a lower pick. Fourth-best would be any number of scenarios where we trade down a few slots in the lottery and dump a bad contract or two, then draft a swing man.

I like all those draft Rudy scenarios, nate. Just so long as they have a trade lined up.

I don't want them to pick him and leave him overseas just to save cap space.

I also agree with Zerocious, Chaos, keynote, pancakes, and Ruz. Rudy ain't all that.
He's better that Tamir "Jewish Jordan", but I don't see him coming off the bench or taking Gilbert's spot at PG. I'm also not buying Gil at SG with a small backcourt. Plus, he's got a buyout and the team's already hurting for cash.

If the Wizards draft Rudy it should be for another team, preferably Portland.
Bye bye Beal.

I concur - trade the pick if we get #2 (Rubio) or 3 (Thabeet). Atlanta is a good team to trade with for either one. If they don't re-sign Bibby, it could be interesting, because that would put them under the cap. Horford, the 19th pick, and the ability to take on contracts are their prizes to us. We have the pick and Blatche to offer them.
