Game Thread - Wiz/Hawks 02/10/09

Post#1 » by Severn Hoos » Tue Feb 10, 2009 11:37 pm

Somehow, in this unmitigated disaster of a season, I have (somewhat inadvertently) managed to amass a record of 2-0 on game threads. I'm starting to feel like the anti-Ji: Am I now the jinx in a season where we are stocking up ping pong balls, bringing wins along the way?

Well, board protocol requires that I create tonight's Game Thread. (And apologies for the delay - I tried to start it at work, but got an error message every time I tried to post it, so here goes.) and since the Wiz are invading my adopted town, I actually get to watch the game on a real TV, not an internet feed that makes it look like I'm watching the underwater dolphin show at SeaWorld.

What: Wiz at the Falcons (or is it Hawks? Thrahsers? No one here in the ATL really cares anyway, if it ain't the Dawgs.)

Where: Philips Arena

When: 7:00 PM

Who: 40% of the Wiz starting lineup vs. 80% of the Hawks starting lineup

Prediction: I'm tempted to say that the Wiz could be on the brink of their first 2-game winning streak in, um, 32 months or something. The Hawks just got blown out at home by the Clippers of all teams, and Bibby is questionable - or may be slowed as he comes back.

But, in the end, I expect that the 4th quarter swoon will show up right on schedule.

Hawks 102, Wiz 91.

Discuss.

Since you technically didn't create the gamethread a few weeks ago (Doc did), I gave him credit for the win (and subsequent loss).

So, once again technically, you're 1-0, shooting for 2-0 tonight.

But don't feel bad, you're still ranked #1 on the Wiz-Board gamethread list.

Why do I have this feeling that last weeks emotional win will propel us to many more...

For some reason I just know that we are going to end up losing out on a stud in the draft. See, 2003 when we sucked enough to get Arvis but didn't suck enough to have a shot at Bosh, LeBron, Melo or Wade

Fine, if you want to be that way.... ;-)

Actually, I didn't intend to start the thread on Sunday either, just went to post and found that there wasn't one. And while "starting"/predicting wins against Sacramento & Indiana isn't too tough, it should be obvious that there are no guarantees with this team.

And now I'm officially bummed. The game is not on TV anywhere here in Atlanta. Only a handful of games aren't broadcast this season, I guess I shouldn't be surprised we're one of them.

At least we have the veteran guile, guts & toughness of Darius Songaila to keep those pesty Hawks off the offensive boards.

9 ORBs in 9 minutes is pretty incredible.
Bye bye Beal.

By running into Darius and possibly separating his shoulder (but I doubt it) Juan Dixon has given Javale his best shot at decent minutes.
Bye bye Beal.

Dixon is a disaster out there.

Wow, the Wiz will be lucky to have 30 points by halftime. :-?

Sign of good coaching: Passing it into the back court AFTER a time out with 2s on the shot clock.

I love Juan, but if not for PR purposes, he'd likely be out of the Association by now.

This entire team is sorry. When their offense isn't on they're just awful, across the board.

That's precisely why I don't consider Caron an All-Star. He's a one way player just like all the other guys on this squad.

Really good second half for McGee before the fourth foul.
Bye bye Beal.
