Nick has officially become a journeyman NBA player.
He's been a member of the Wizards, Clippers, Sixers, and now is a Laker.

This signing is consistent with a team that is stuck in mediocrity... which is what the Lakers are now; a mediocre team that will be lucky to squeak into the playoffs.

The Lakers will have 3 players they can depend on for shooting now -- Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant and Nick Young. I think that could be a really formidable back court. What do you think?
I think they should take it slow with Kobe's return, that makes Nick the starter, that means they are tanking.
Nash
Nick
Wes Johnson
Gasol
Chris Kaman
But they will have a ton of cap room next year. Maybe they get LeBron and Kobe and LeBron team up. Right back on track.
They should miss the playoff, get in the lottery and let the league throw them a bone to help their rebuild. Kobe returns around Jan and they ease him back. Just enough that he doesn't get rusty and he can rack up some pts and stuff toward this career totals. And so he can prove to FAs that he can still do it.
LA needs to take a year off and regather.

Re: What do you think of Nick Young to the Lakers?
The Lakers will clearly be in the lottery. Nick at the veteran's minimum is fine but with Kobe out and Nick starting for him or playing SF, it spells trouble if you want to get Ws. But I doubt LAL wants to get too many of them... they should seriously try to keep Bryant off the floor for half the season. They just signed Wesley Johnson too to replace Ron Artest.
BTW, Nick and Gilbert scored 30 a piece yesterday in the Drew League.

Re: What do you think of Nick Young to the Lakers?
If expectations are low enough, Young can make some positive contributions. Overall, he's a solidly below average player. He's an okay scorer and a sub-par defender overall -- his decent own-man defense is more than offset by his poor awareness and anticipation, bad help D, and terrible defensive rebounding.
At the minimum, with few enough minutes off the bench, maybe he can help some with scoring. Realistically speaking, he's not going to help in any other way.

I vaguely recall one of Nick's first interviews after being drafted saying he looked forward to going to LA after his career was over, because he wanted to work in the movie business. So, maybe going to LA will give him a better outlook. It'll be interesting to see how Kobe reacts to him.

With Kobe out they need someone to jack up 20+ shots a game.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

^ Yep, he's gonna love D'Antoni's "SSOL" offense. Just fire away, N1!
Question is: How many will he make?

This was a fantastic signing and I'm happy for Nick because I think he always wanted to be a Laker, although I'm sure he was hoping for a bigger salary.
Also, I find it hilarious that Young is going to wear the number 0 next season. I can't help but think Gil has something to do with that. Love it (as long as it's not on our team haha)

Through 11 career meetings, Nick vs Kobe:
Nick Young has outshot Kobe Bryant from FG, from 3PT, and from the FT line.

I think Nick Young will play his best basketball as a Laker.
Bye bye Beal.

Flip Saunders has Othyus Jeffers on Minnesota's SL team. Jeffers had a better game than Shabazz Muhammed today.
Bye bye Beal.

Euroleague champions Olympiacos has found its new starting small forward and his name is Cartier Martin. The 29 years old small forward who is a free agent from Washington was selected by coach Giorgos Bartzokas as the replacement of Kostas Papanikolaou. According to Eurohoops sources the two sides are in their final stage of negotiations with Martin ready to sign a two-year deal with the Reds. According to the usual policy of Olympiacos, the contract is expected to include a buy out clause for next summer.

Good for him. I recall how his hustle cost Blatchemo a triple double (that was him, right?) and Dray's whiney look in response.

Here's a name you haven't heard in a while:
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blazers-as ... 35698.html
Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach David Vanterpool interviewed for the Philadelphia 76ers' head coaching opening on Monday and has emerged as a serious candidate for the job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
<snip>
Vanterpool was an undrafted free agent out of St. Bonaventure who reached the NBA briefly with Washington and had a successful career in the Continental Basketball Association, China, Russia and Italy.
