Rogue Game thread - Wizards at Spurs

Post#1 » by Hoopalotta » Sat Nov 21, 2009 4:58 am

I'm startin' the game thread to get some mojo goin' here, I hope no one minds.

To that end, I've worked out this play diagram to illustrate how to get Caron involved.

Image

What: A Basketball game.

When: 8:30 PM ET, November 21, 2009

Where:
Image

How: Two hoops, 94 feet of court, one ball, 23 tall dudes and Earl Boykins.

Why: Oh, come on!

Who: San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards

Spurs Offensive Efficiency: 5th
Spurs Defensive Efficiency: 21st
Spurs Rebounding rate: 16th
Turnover Rate: 4th

Know your enemy:

The spurs are dinged up pretty good at the top of their rotation with Ginobli out and Parker day to day. After losing three straight, they stand at 4-7 with the Jazz having just won for the first time in Antonio since '99. Seeing as that Stockton and Malone were playing at the time, it does show that the historic record of losses for the 'Zards in Antonio is not insurmountable against this particular set of black jerseys. By facing the Spurs early, the wizards can take advantage of customary San-Antonio slow start before they are able to build their traditional late season cohesion.

And if Parker doesn't play, the 'Zards will be facing a decidedly unathletic team that they match up well with at most positions. In their last four games, the Spurs have failed to score 100 points, with the Jazz keeping them to just 83.

In their last two games, the Spurs defense has given up 42 and 54 points in the paint, so dribble penetration and slashing could be open for Washington.

Ultimately, if the Wizards have a good scoring night and hit the boards, it's unlikely that just Duncan and the role players will be able to put up enough points to keep up. If the game's in the 90's though, the Spurs can probably grind this one out.

Oh, and what's a Wilhelm Scream? Well....

As I said in the OKC gamethread, I think we'll take this.

Parker is out.
Ginobili is out.
Haywood will play Duncan about as well as anyone in this league.

Cover the perimeter and we're good. Don't let Matt Bonner and Roger Mason kill us.

We HAVE to win this. This league is too damn hard for us to piss away winnable games like this.

Now I know I'm not going to watch. DVR but expect the worst. Last time I expected the worst they beat Cleveland. I'll do my part and not watch, but the odds aren't good this time for the Wizards.

Utah hadn't beaten SA in SA since 1999. Wizards haven't won there since ... you guessed it, 1999. What are the chances the Spurs give up another once-every-ten-years loss tonight?

SA has looked terrible this season, but that's just like saying they'll get their mojo back tonight.
Bye bye Beal.

Bingo. I'm more confident when we play good teams fully healthy than any team missing their key players. The core group of the Wizards always play down to their competition.

Agreed, which is why Flip should "go rogue" and start this group:

McGee
Blatche
Miller
Young
Boykins

It's like a "negative-plus-a-negative-equals-a-positive" or something like that.

I'm excited to see Haywood vs Tim Duncan. This is a must win game. We have played the toughest schedule in the league and keep letting winnable games slip away.

I expect the Wizards to lose their next 14 games.

No, just kidding.

But, it just depends on what Wizards team shows up. The one that shoots themselves in the foot or the team that won in Dallas and vs Cleveland?

If history is any indication, its much more likely that the team that shoots themselves in the foot will show up tonight.

No reason to expect a win tonight. Even a depleted Spurs team knows how to execute it's offense and defense. Tony Parker is in for a big night tonight.

No, he was bitten by a rabid raccoon earlier this afternoon.
