Re: OT-Historic Blizzard on the way this weekend
The massive storms I remember - 96, 2003, & 2009 - were all over the weekend. Even the big storm that I experienced while in Chicago (1999, 2nd biggest storm on record there) was over a weekend. And now potentially this one...just pretty odd.

i had had two martinis at this point so i asked her if he every shouted DAGGER in the bedroom with her.
she looked at me kinda strangely and said she had no idea what DAGGER meant.

believe it or not there might actually be a scientific reason for this (and it's not just anecdotal memory). evidently it all has to do with the workweek.
cant find the original article from Nature so this summary will have to do.
http://www.scienceagogo.com/news/199807 ... _sys.shtml
but wait, there seems to also be a study saying the opposite
http://www.livescience.com/environment/ ... -rain.html
dame you science!
(didnt the '96 storm happen on sunday or monday? i remember deciding to go back to school a day early and then being pissed off because i missed the entire storm and would have been "stuck" for a week if i followed the original plan.)
Until Grunfeld goes there is no rebuild.

So how close are we to a record for winter snow?
Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

Re: OT-Historic Blizzard on the way this weekend
Apparently we've had 24 inches so far, and I the most snow ever for a winter was, according to the post, the winter of 1898-99, that had 54.4 inches. So we have 30.4 inches to go to have the most snow ever.
Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

This is insane. It took me a whole minute just to open my front door this morning. My dog probably stands about 2ft tall (maybe more) and the snow completely blanketed her.
The Blizzard of 2010 has arrived.

Somewhere above 20" here so far. I'm in Brookland - some guy 4 blocks from me just had his roof start to collapse from the snow! Taking back all the times I cursed my very slanted roof while i was cleaning out the gutters.
