Post#1 » by TheToothFairy » Sun Jan 6, 2013 8:25 pm

Erie Bayhawks-Knicks
Idaho Stampede-Portland
LA Defenders-Lakers
Rio Grande Vipers-Rockets

Somewhere in FL. It's really impractical for the Magic or Heat to use the D League, with their affiliates halfway across the nation.

New Jersey. Outside of the Devils we have no team. We couldnt support an NBA team but i think a d-league team would do well, in central or southern new jersey as opposed to north jersey.

They are working towards having 30 franchises in the dleague, the time that comes will be a great thing for the NBA overall.

If the league is trying to generate revenue from the D-league, they should put it in the largest cities within a couple hours drive of the NBA affiliate.

At least the teams would be able to keep an eye on their players. It'd be cool if teams have the option to sign players to D-league contracts too, to fill up spots on the D-league teams.

I think it'd benefit the guys with half a foot in the NBA door. I mean, we all know the league caters to its stars. But if every teams' GM had to sign players to play in their d-league affiliate, you'd see teams more resilient to injury and more job stability for players who just need that extra chance to prove themselves.

But this is how i'd add affiliates to the teams that share:

Bakersfield - Clippers
Macon - Hawks
Tucson - Suns
Buffalo - Raptors
Fort Wayne - Pacers
Lansing - Pistons
Green Bay - Bucks
Greensboro - Bobcats
Champaign - Bulls
Colorado Springs - Nuggets
Baton Rouge - Hornets
Baltimore - Wizards
Reno - Kings
Logan - Utah
Cattanooga - Grizzlies
Tampa - Magic
Jacksonville - Heat
Allentown - 76ers

I disagree. New Jersey never really supported the Nets in the form of attendance. Even when we were good, nobody really cared and went to games. What makes you think people will have interest in a D-League team? Where would they play?

Wilmington, Delaware could be home to a 76ers minor league team. They've had very successful attendance for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, a Kansas City Royals affiliate, and enjoy close proximity to Philadelphia and its dense metropolitan population.

Doesn't always work like that, obvious choice for Cavaliers' Charge would be in Akron but it ended up being in Canton.

Every team should get a dleague affiliate. Rockets use theirs like a true Minor league team. Half of their players on the current roster have spent time in the Dleauge.

Lin
Patterson
Morris
Greg Smith
Motiejunas
Terrence Jones
Machado

The Rockets under General Manager Daryl Morey have sent its first rounder down to the Vipers seemingly EVERY year starting with Aaron Brooks back in 07.

You forgot to mention the Santa Cruz Warriors who the Golden State Warriors own. I think they have the best record in the D-League, too.

It's kind of convenient for a team to have their own team. Santa Cruz is in the Bay Area so the Warriors occasionally send Kent Bazemore and Jeremy Tyler down there for so they don't get too rusty and get to face some competition.

Why? The D-League will never work as a legitimate farm system for NBA players a la the MLB's minor leagues. Each NBA team isn't going to want to pay an entire roster of players knowing that 99% of them will never actually play in the NBA.

And do the current D-League teams even fill their stadiums? I can see them being successful in smaller towns and states that don't have an NBA team, but why would people choose to go watch a D-League game if there's NBA games going on in the same state.

Do you realize how small the salaries are?

And do the current D-League teams even fill their stadiums?

How many minor league baseball teams fill their ballparks? The Dayton Dragons?

Because they can see them in person without driving 4 hours?

Skyforce should be exclusively the Wolves.
Ants should either be under the Pistons
Energy should be under the Bulls
BigHorns should be under the Kings
Jam should be under the Clippers

For a few ideas of where I would add teams...
Bring back the Utah Flash (Jazz)
Bring back the Alburquerque ThunderBirds (Suns)
Bring back the Arkansas RimRockers (Grizzlies)
Bring back the Colorado 14ers (Nuggets)
Put a team in Asheville (Bobcats)
Put a team in Buffalo (Raptors)
Put a team in Louisville (Pacers)
Put a team in Baltimore (Wizards)

Each team having their own D-League team would be nice.

They can expand the NBA draft to 5 rounds, giving more players a chance to be drafted, and maybe giving them hope of actually making the team.

Give the 2nd round picks a garunteed d-leauge contract.

Each team gets more assets, an additional 10-15 players.

Allow every team to have an 30 man active roster, so if someone were to be called up, and make it to the arena during the middle of a game, he'd be eligible to play.
