A shame how his career went down. I thought he would become a superstar for sure. Dont know why it did not happen tho.

Danny Manning. Sure, he had a long, productive career. But consistent ACL injuries (including one time with both ACLs torn) stopped him from being a perennial All-Star. He was Greg Oden before Greg Oden, a #1 draft pick with injury problems.

Wow - my EXACT two.

Most folks know Ed's story - with a dead man's tendon replacing his destroyed ACL before his freshman, at 2 games a week and limited practice time in college he was one of the greatest of all time; at 4 games a week in the pros, the leg couldn't hold up, and he was a 3 season journeyman.

But Estes? HE died almost 50 years ago - so a lot of folks don't know the story. His accidental electrocution on his way home from his last college game (stopped at the site of a traffic accident to see if he could help, and brushed a downed power line) might have changed the face of the NBA for a decade, as with territorial drafts, he likely would have joined Jerry West and Elgin Baylor in their primes in the Lakers lineup in the mid 60's. 33.7pts, 13.7 rebs as a senior at Utah State.

My votes go to Shaheen Holloway, Dedric Willoughby, AJ Guyton (personal favorite), Dee Brown (illinois) and Tyson Wheeler. Electric players in college but never got it going in the NBA.

A lot of Big 10 guys on this list; how about Shawn Respert? Talk about a lights out shooter. The fact that he was able to hang on in the NBA for that long even while dealing with stomach cancer is pretty remarkable.

Jon Scheyer (Duke), playing for Macabi Tel Aviv but I expected him to be a solid backup, still has a chance

Aaron Miles (Kansas)-, one of the best pur PG's i've seen in college basketball, if only he was taller and could shoot it a little

Hollis Price (Iowa State)- Guy was a dominant collegiate scorer but couldn't do anything to make a foothold in the pros

Will Avery. I was sure he was going to make it big and was a better NBA talent than Jay Williams. I really believe Coach K harsh words blasting him for turning pro against K's wishes affected him.

Btw, I see a lot of Ed Cota fans posted. I had some brutal arguments with his fans at the time, but this isn't an I told ya so thread. Anyway, I was really wrong about Avery.

Going back a lot of years, John "Hot Plate" Williams was a player I thought was going to be a superstar, but he ate his way out of the league.

GothamGM wrote:I wish Jason Gardner would have made it. He was stellar in college (played as a starting PG for 4 years, including the NC vs Duke as a soph). I think he was in the same boat as cleaves. Gardner was undersized, not a freak athlete, or lightning fast either.

Actualy Cleeves was all of those things but broke his back in a horrible car accident on a recruiting trip. He was never the same player or as good at MSU as he was in High School.

Marcus Fizer to this day baffles me. Im just guessing hes just another in the long line of over hyped BIG12 talent. From Rex Walters and Danny Manning to Stacy King and Big Country. Most every Big12 stud has been a underachiver.

Juan Dixon, Maryland
Salim Stoudamire, Arizona

Salim got a raw deal imo. Stuck in Atlanta during the ISO Joe era. His stats when he got 20+ minutes in his career are great. He could have had an Eddie House type career. Just an unreal shooter.
