DBR's 2013 Mock Draft

Post#1 » by DeBlazerRiddem » Tue Jun 25, 2013 8:28 pm

Here is the link to last years: viewtopic.php?p=32330509

Some real head slappers in there. Probably the worst is Lillard, I guess I didn't think teams were that high on him (or maybe I fooled myself because I wanted a Drummond/Lillard draft so badly!). Robinson at #2 was bad as well, got sucked into the hype like most people. Perry Jones and Rivers ahead of Lamb and T. Jones is bad, but not as bad as Miller and White ahead of Ross and Harkless!

Well, one cannot live in fear of making mistakes. Here is my 2013 mock draft:

1. Len - Cleveland bypasses getting another defensive PF and gets a center with two way potential.
2. Noel - Orlando gets a good fit with Vucevic and a big man to anchor their D.
3. Porter - Washington gets a SF, adding length, defense and shooting around Wall.
4. McLemore - Charlotte picks up a scorer with good potential and fit with MKG.
5. Oladipo - Phoenix picks up a player GMs love, with low risk and can contribute next to Dragic immediately.
6. Burke - New Orleans gets a PGotF and a team leader to build around with Davis.
7. Bennett - Sacramento gets a forward, will try and groom him at SF. (Personally they should go with Zeller)
8. Caldwell-Pope - Detroit gets a young SG with great potential and to help space the floor for their bigs.
9. McCollum - Minnesota gets a win-now fit with Rubio, with a mature, good 3pt shooting guard.
10. Adams - Portland goes with a player with high defensive potential.
11. Zeller - Philadelphia gets a big with great potential and is a steal at 11.
12. Olynyk - OKC gets a offensive minded big man, a role they currently lack.
13. Muhammad - Dallas gets SF with big scoring potential, doesn't duplicate Paul/Howard and could likely be traded for space.
14. Carter-Williams - Utah gets a pure point to fill the Williams hole and build around with shooters.
15. Antetokounmpo - Milwaukee gets a SF with high potential to bring over and start developing.
16. Karasev - Boston gets a SF with leadership qualities and go-to scoring to replace what PP brought.
17. Dieng - Atlanta gets a true defensive center, who will be ready to play next to Horford.
18. Bullock - Atlanta gets a ready to contribute SF, who will help space the floor.
19. Franklin - Cleveland gets a defensive player who will help both Iring and Waiters in the backcourt.
20. Gobert - Chicago goes with a super long center, who Thibbs can probably work wonders with.
21. Crabbe - Jazz get a very good shooter to pair with MCW in the backcourt and Hayward on the wing.
22. Larkin - Brooklyn get a very athletic PG who was projected a little higher to backup Williams.
23. Schroeder - Indiana gets a PG who can play defense and hopefully grow into a floor general.
24. Plumlee - Knicks pick up a win-now rebounding center to learn from Camby and Chandler.
25. Withey - Clippers get a rebounding/shotblocking center who can hit his FT's to backup Jordan.
26. Nogueira - Minnesota gets a young shotblocker with great potential.
27. Carmichael - Denver reaches a little bit, but the best/most efficent offensive PF on the board.
28. Muscala - San Antonio get a good rebounder, who also showed a good shooting ability at the combine.
29. Snell - OKC gets a 3&D SF to backup Durant and give their bench help at a needed position.
30. Iverson - Phoenix gets a rebounder to provide a backup Gortat.

31. Canaan - Cleveland gets a backup PG who can score and shoot.
32. Mitchell - OKC goes with a forward who could be good all-around, but also some consistency problems.
33. Rice - Cleveland gets a SF who can shoot the 3 pointer.
34. Green - Houson gets a scoring combo guard who could provide a boost off the bench.
35. Ledo - Philadelphia gets a wing player with good potential for the second round.
36. Jackson - Sacramento gets great value, a pure point who can shoot 3 pointers.
37. Hardaway - Detroit get a forward with who can do a lot of things but has some consistency problems.
38. Wolters - Washington gets a PG who can shoot.
39. Goodwin - Portland gets a guard who can get to the rim very well.
40. Murphy - Portland gets a 3pt shooting stretch 4 who will replace Babbitt.
41. Jean-Charles - Memphis gets a SF who they can groom as a glue-guy behind Prince.
42. Dedmon - Philadelphia gets a rebounding center with decent size.
43. Brown - Milwaukee get a true PG, with size enough to play next to Jennings for stretches.
44. Todorovic - Dallas stashes a big, who could end up a Marc Gasol like player.
45. Mbakwe - Portland gets a very good rebounding forward, to make up for passing Blair/Faried
46. Thomas - Utah gets a forward who can shoot a couple 3's, continuing to build spacing around MCW.
47. Nedovic - Atlanta gets a very athletic guard, who could play next to either Teague or Jenkins.
48. Young - Lakers take a flier on a potential scorer coming off a down year.
49. Abines - Bulls stash another player, who could maybe be a future SG for them.
50. Leslie - Atlanta gets a forward with a versatile skillet.
51. Pressey - Orlando takes a pure point guard, who has some 3 point range.
52. Hill - Minnesota gets a wing who can be a 3&D bench player.

54. Roberson - Washington gets a forward who can play defense and rebound.
55. Lima - Memphis gets a PF/C who can rebound.
56. Siva - Detroit gets a point guard who can pass and prides himself on defense.
57. Ennis - Phoenix gets an incredible athlete with some shooting skills at SF.
58. Southerland - San Antonio get a wing who is a very good shooter.
59. Dubljevic- Minnesota gets a rebounding big.

I like the team by team analysis, but as a Cats fan i can tell you there's no way in hell Tyrus starts for us next year. Dude is overpaid trash, out of the rotation, and an amnesty candidate.

my favorite of the mocks so far. Admire your willingness to show last year's and acknowledge your misses. Thats drafting and nothing to be ashamed of.

Ironically the only pick of the top half of your draft I dont love is Adams to Portland. I dont think he solves your center issue which I think they will address with a veteran so I would like to see them get better value because they need depth everywhere. Still thats just my personal opinion and you are obviously far closer to that situation than I am.

Alright, so I recently came to the opinion that drafting Zeller is waaay too much of a Cleveland-esque move. Interestingly it seemed to effect Phoenix, Memphis, Detroit and Philadelphia the most.

1. Zeller - Cleveland keeps the pick and gets the offensive big man they are shopping for. Zeller has great advanced metrics and draws a ton of fouls, combined with great athleticism.
2. Noel - Orlando gets a good fit with Vucevic and a big man to anchor their D.
3. Porter - Washington gets a SF, adding length, defense and shooting around Wall.
4. McLemore - Charlotte picks up a scorer with good potential and fit with MKG.
5. Len - Phoenix picks up a center with two way potential to groom behind Gortat.
6. Burke - New Orleans gets a PGotF and a team leader to build around with Davis.
7. Bennett - Sacramento gets a forward, will try and groom him at SF.
8. Oladipo - Detroit gets a highly rated SG and continue building a culture of defense.
9. Pope - Minnesota gets a SG in the mold they have coveted - shooting/scoring/defense.
10. McCollum - Portland gets a player they have been linked to, similar to Lillard last year.
11. Adams - Philadelphia gets a big with great potential and is a steal at 11.
17. Dieng - Atlanta gets a defensive center, who will be ready to play next to Horford.

26. Nogueira - Minnesota gets a young shotblocker with great potential.
27. Carmichael - Denver reaches a little bit, but the best/most efficient offensive PF on the board.
28. Muscala - San Antonio get a good rebounder, who also showed a good shooting ability at the combine.
29. Snell - OKC gets a 3&D SF to backup Durant and give their bench help at a needed position.
30. Ledo - Phoenix gets a wing with very good potential for the end of the 1st.

31. Canaan - Cleveland gets a backup PG who can score and shoot.

Ironically the only pick of the top half of your draft I dont love is Adams to Portland. I dont think he solves your center issue which I think they will address with a veteran so I would like to see them get better value because they need depth everywhere. Still thats just my personal opinion and you are obviously far closer to that situation than I am.

Thank you!

I am not so sure about solving the center issue in with a veteran. Trade's seem to expensive and free agents are meh. It seems teams have to grow their own defensive centers these days, and Adams represents the best option for that.

Maybe if Zeller goes 1st, Portland will get McCollum.

Who are they gonna go with?

I cannot read them at all. I think they have Zeller as their target, but feel they can trade down and still get him. If they cannot trade down (and I don't know who would want to trade up to #1 for whom).

Great mock. You didn't do too bad last year and if the cards fell that way for Portland last year in your mock you would have ended up with Lillard/Drummond :o

Why do you think Zeller is their target? You don't go for need high in the draft.

I don't really know if it's need. I think people are sleeping on Zeller, he was one of the most productive college players in the draft - he was the best player at drawing fouls. Add that to his very good athleticism, and he is perhaps the most sure thing with also one of the highest ceilings.

If Cleveland follows advanced statistics, Zeller is probably the most standout name besides Noel.
