See Russell as more of a Westbrook type and I look for the Nuggets to select him over a SF/PF Looney. Not that Looney isn't a worth pick, but Russell's play give backup PG skills and can also play SG

You see D'Angelo Russell as a Russell Westbrook type? how? what makes that comparison work at all?

Similar size, can play the point, strong passing skills yet is more aggressive to the hole than typical PG. Doesn't have Westbrooks speed but has as strong a stroke as Westbrook

Sky, i understand what you're saying, but unless you're an athletic freak, the Westbrook comparison should not be made.

That is why I said type, he has enough of the same traits flr me to make that comparison. Also, when I've seen him play, that's who he reminds me of. Westbrook is a unique player, but I feel that Russell has enough game to warrant that type of comparison.

Just hard for me to see a Westbrook comparison without factoring in his athletic gifts. His strength and explosion are two of his biggest weapons neither of which druss has or his ability to hound defensively. Just tough for me to get.

The best comparison I have heard for Russell is Delonte West. West is the better vertical leaper and Russell is a better shooter but you are getting a very similar floor game.

Nbadraft.net is comparing him to Brandon Roy as the ceiling, Manu as the floor

Because .Net is clueless.

Roy could finish through defenders at the rim and post up. Manu is a one off.

Russell is going to produce somewhere between Delonte West and Goran Dragic IMO.

That site is notorious for bad comps. They do a lot of them off physical looks instead of skillset and game. Also the same site that called deshawn Stevenson Kobe Bryant. Just saying.

Is this based on team needs or just a ranking of players?

I'd imagine Houston would definitely rather have Harrell.

or even a Delon Wright for that matter. another ball handler creater to help take some pressure off Harden and still provide defense for the PG side. while not as harrassing as Pat Bevie still very pesky with long arms and quick hands. could set the table for the 2nd unit when he isn't on the floor with Harden.

Harrell isn't any better than the gluttony of power forwards the Rockets already have. If they like Delon Wright, they could trade down, but I don't think it makes any sense value-wise to take him at 14.

in what way do you think Caris LeVert helps? or is that a BPA selection?

It' mostly BPA, but having a young SG/SF to bolster their wing depth (offering off the bench offensive creation) would be a good move for Houston even in terms of fit. With T Jones, D Mo, even Joey Dorsey and potentially Josh Smih (if he comes back) Harrell would be in the D League for at least a year and has a quite limited ceiling to be honest.
