I was always bothered by this and maybe someone can help me understand it under the old CBA
After the Kemp/Baker/Brandon deal from 1997 Sherman Douglas was a part of that deal and Cleveland got him from
Milwaukee. He was traded to Denver a few month later for Greg Graham. Before the season started Denver was going to waive Douglas but what doesnt make sense to me is why they did that deal with Cleveland as they took on a extra 3 million in salary for a guy they were going to waive.
Basically could a team trade you a player but agree to still pay his salary if you that team didn't waive him before opening night?
