What exactly does this mean in the scheme of the NBA? The last two times I can find that it occurred were when Dwight asked out of Orlando and Asik asks out of Houston. It probably means much what it sounds like it means, but are there certain legal actions that can occur if the player is not traded?
Anyone actually officially know the legalese that pertains to the situation?(this would be great in the cbafaq unless it's a bylaw)

Re: Formal Trade Request
It means they would prefer to be traded elsewhere. But other than the idea that a team might have an unhappy player on their hands if they don't trade him, it means little more than that.
It's up to Houston. If they don't want to trade him, they don't have to...in which case, Asik would be required to play in Houston and he has no recourse.
