Post#1 » by RexBoyWonder » Sat Oct 12, 2013 11:58 pm

What are the expected numbers for Salary Cap and Luxury Tax threshold for the 2014-2015 season?

I know it's hard to figure out, but i hope some knowledgeable posters can provide a somewhat educated guess. Thx.

The league is currently projecting a salary cap of $62.5 million and a tax threshold of $76.1 million for the 2014-15 season. The projections will be updated during the year as necessary.

WOW that's a huge jump from the current figures : salary cap: $58,679,000, luxury tax threshold: $71,748,000.

Is there an explanation for such an high projection?

The sharp increases are something of an illusion.

The BRI projection that underlies the 2014-15 salary cap and tax figures is growing by 4.5% over the BRI projection for this season. The rest is due to the fact that the 2013-14 salary cap and tax numbers contain a $1.0 million downward adjustment because pre-escrow salaries and benefits for last season were significantly higher (53.89%) than the agreed-to share of BRI (49.96%), causing the overage to exceed 6% of total salaries and benefits.

Happy to help. Bear in mind that these are initial projections, and will be updated as necessary during the year as the league gets updated information (and certainly will change when the numbers are finalized during the next moratorium).
