DPE vs the hardcap?

Post#1 » by Mamba4Goat » Wed Jan 15, 2014 6:33 am

How do the two work together...the Nets got a DPE for Lopez and yet they're way over the hard cap. Can they still go out and sign say (just for hypothetical purposes) Andrew Bynum to a 3 year $5mil a year contract putting them over the hard cap even more?
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

By definition, a "hard cap" would be a salary limit that cannot be exceeded for any reason. The Nets do not have a hard cap. They can keep spending to whatever extent they want, as long as they have roster space and an exception permitting them to add the applicable salary to their payroll.

Sorry. I forgot that the NBA has a soft cap. So there's no restrictions on a DPE?
