Years accrued

For an nba player in regards to their retirement pension what does it take to accrue a year? 10 day contract enough? Be on the final roster at the end of the season? Do years coached count? What if you're only on the playoff roster like Tracy McGrady with the Spurs?

One day on the regular season roster at any point is enough. You do not need to be on the roster at the end of the season to accrue a year of service, nor do you need to appear in a game.

And McGrady was on the regular season roster and not just playoffs.

Is it possible to be on a playoff roster without ever having been on the regular season roster?

Not really. You would have to be signed by the last day of the regular season IIRC. I could be off though.
