Question about Trade Exceptions?

Post#1 » by corwin » Thu Jul 24, 2008 6:01 pm

The Sixers traded Carney (1.6 million) & Calvin Booth (1.1 million) to Minnesota in order to gain cap space to sign Elton Brand. A deeply protected 2nd round draft pick was all that came back. Did this trade generate a trade exception of 2.7 million or two smaller trade exceptions equal to the values of the two contracts that were sent to Minnesota? Also, is the Booth value based upon current contract or the team portion of the veteran's minimum contract?

They're under the cap, so a trade exception wasn't created at all.

According to trade checker, Philly has an almost perfectly useless trade exception left over from the Korver to Utah deal. I wonder if that's an oversight, because it makes no sense not to have renounced that. And the person/people behind trade checker do mend to make mistakes here and there, like typos, or giving people the wrong rookie salary, or whatever.

Philly would have been forced to trash that prior TPE in order to sign Brand. It obviously no longer exists.

It's somewhat ironic to have a typo in a sentence where you accuse someone else of making typos ;-)

Ironic, or dynamic and perfect entirely deliberate execution of the worst's finest joke? You decide.

(Hint: it's the first one.)
