Simple Clarification, and Bulls luxury tax

Post#1 » by windycity00 » Sun Feb 22, 2009 10:04 pm

First question:
Trade Checker describes contract length essentially as "years remaining after this season."
That is why players becoming FA's this summer (D.Gooden, B.Gordon, C.Wilcox) are given a 0, because they have "0 years remaining after this season"....
*Or...you can describe these players as "FA's in the summer of '09''.....correct ??
Ok...well,
LeBron is given a 2 in Trade Checker; this means he has "2 years remaining after this season"....correct ??
Ok....so,
This season ('08-'09 season): LeBron (2)
Next season ('09-'10 season): LeBron (1)
The season after next season ('10-'11 season): LeBron (0)
Therefore,
"in the summer of '11"....LeBron will be a FA...correct ??
....But they say ''The Summer of '10"...when describing LeBron and his FA class ??
i'm confused.

Second question:
To avoid paying the Lux.Tax, what salary amount can the Bulls not exceed in the seasons prior to "The Summer of LeBron?"
Also, is there a site where Lux.Tax for each team is given?

An excellent site for contractual details is here >> http://www.shamsports.com/content/pages ... /index.jsp

Lebron's 2010-11 season is a player option, and it is widely assumed he will decline it to become a free agent and get a new long-term deal.

The luxury tax line is the same for every team. A good spreadsheet where all the teams stand in relation to it is here >> http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key= ... zXQQ&gid=0

The luxury tax line for 2008-09 is 71.15M. The Bulls are below it.

The luxury tax line for 2009-10 is unknown. It won't be set until early July. It is expected to go down somewhat. (For how it is determined, see http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q10 )
