.Webm files, future of .gif (HTML5)

Post#1 » by amcoolio » Thu Apr 10, 2014 5:48 am

Asking to look in to support of the new wave of video/picture files, .webm files.

Its sort of like vine, but way better. Think of an animated gif in full HD 1080p, 30+ seconds long, can stop/play/pause, AND have sound (or disable sound globally serverside). All UNDER 2 MEGS A FILE! 10 seconds of HD video under 1 MB? Impossible, right?

Get ready to mind=blown:

They play directly in your web browser similar to vines or animated gifs. Created with new HTML5 technology

Anyway its very new and some websites are already taking advantage of it. I think it will replace most .gif files in 1 year as converters from .gif -> .webm are already out there. 3 MB .gif files are cut to 100KB. That's pretty huge for bandwidth costs.
