The board is great for 90% of the discussions we have here, but really falls short for game or draft threads, or anything real-time. By the time you post something, it's already buried 3 page deep and no one reads it. There's little actual interaction between posters, just people sounding out their personal reactions.
I propose an integrated chat client, that uses your current log-in as the screen name (to prevent any kind of user fraud)

Seems to be the most popular one

Also mentioned a lot on phpBB modding forums as a good option
I was going host an IRC channel for Raptors GTs but I didn't want to take the discussion off the board, plus there would be no way to verify people are who they say they are, which could lead to all kinds of problems.

Re: Chat plug-in for Game Threads
I'm personally in favor of keeping all discussions here on the forums.

i actually like the idea of an chat box for each sub-forum, particularly for GM A Team games.

Re: Chat plug-in for Game Threads
In my experience using chatrooms around a game is a bad idea. The result is usually people "shouting" random exclamations with no actual discussion going on.
Now to a lesser extent, this how the game threads usually look like but I think there is still a level a discussion going on in a forum setting.

I think it would also be harder to moderate or potentially prevent spam.

We've done chat before. It was low quality and awful to moderate.

Re: Chat plug-in for Game Threads
On days like the draft this site needs an alternative like a chatbox. I swear every year on draft day or during the finals this site crashes.

How about a 500 person Vent channel? That would really encourage some quality discussion.

Re: Chat plug-in for Game Threads
We might explore something for the Draft and trade deadline, but otherwise we don't want to add a chat plugin at the moment.
