The Atlanta Hawks have named Mike Budenholzer the team’s new head coach, President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry announced. Budenholzer becomes the 12th full-time head coach in Hawks history.
“We are thrilled to have Mike as the next coach of the Atlanta Hawks. He has an incredible basketball acumen and has a keen awareness of the league and what it takes to be successful," Ferry said. "His experience and four championships over the last 17 years provide a tremendous foundation for his leadership of our team.”

Congrats Bud, you deserve it.
Remind the Spurs to pound the Hawks extra-hard next season. Not because of Bud, but because the Hawks pulled a dick-move, stealing our lead assistant like that.

Good hire by the Hawks. Nice to see a low-profile, deserving candidate get the job.
On the other hand, the NBA should do something about this. The same way they force teams to wait to pursue free agents, they should force teams to wait to pursue a coaching hire. Something like, if a franchise fires their coach in March/April/May, they must use an interim coach from within the organization until the playoffs have ended. And not just for official hires, but for interviews and the whole process.
