Vince Carter Still Has No Timetable On Retirement

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Oct 4, 2013 5:42 pm

Vince Carter will turn 37 on January 26, but he continues to have no timetable for when he may retire.

“I don’t want to do that to myself,” Carter said. “I don’t want to limit myself. I think doing that you’ll start thinking about [retirement] as the season goes on. I’ll just let the body pretty much dictate how I’m feeling in the end.”

Carter averaged 13.4 points in just 26 minutes per game last season with the Dallas Mavericks.

Carter gives the Mavericks solid production and also leadership.

“It’s not just his scoring and spectacular plays,” Carlisle said. “It’s what his presence on the floor means.”

I think Vince has another 2-3 years left at the very least, assuming no major injuries

I'll bet my money that he'll play more games than Andrew Bynum ;)

Aslong as someone is willing to pay him million(s), he's not going anywhere.

Intersting stats

VC is 2100 pts away from slipping into the top 20 scorers of all-time and at 22,223 just a stones throw from 2500 for a career--Something that only 17 NBA players have accomplished. Granted, pierce, allen and duncan will all reach that milestone during 2014, and it is unlikely vince will pass any of his contemporaries (including KG, TD, Ray, Pierce, Dirk) but I would think that short of a championship, hitting the top 20 and dropping 25,000 points should be a key milestone for him...and for those keeping track, only 4 players who have scored 25,000 points have yet to get voted into the Hall of Fame - Kobe, KG and Dirk are still playing, and Shaq is a shoe-in.

Dominique made it in without a ring. Reggie too. Alex English, and of course Karl Malone.

I don't think people understand how good Vince is when he wants to be, and even more - I don't think HE understands this. He really has no weak points - he's a great shooter, he's a great dunker, he's a great (yes, great) passer, has a great understanding of basketball, a good on ball defender, a good post defender, has post moves, plays the pick and roll very well, IS unselfish, has good ball handling, helps rookies, is a good teammate, does charitable work, respects other players... you name it...

If there's anything bad in terms of basketball with Vince, is that he's a submediocre HELP defender, sometimes he seeks attention when he gets hit etc (more than other players) and doesn't play every time at 100%.

If he can stay healthy he will do well, other then that he is fine of course he is aging so he is not going to be the same player but good luck to him this season.

Being a Raps fan I hated him for leaving, but every since he has definitely grown. Best of luck to him with the rest of his NBA career and I do hope he makes it into the HOF someday. Greatest dunker ever, hands down!

Easily one of the top 10, if not top 5 gifted NBA players in the post-MJ era.

Shame he lost the hunger - he could've been in the convo with the likes of Kobe if he hadn't turned into Wince Harder.

I think Vince should retire soon for what he's known for. He's a done player who knows that his career is done and he should be ready to move on to a good retirement. Yes we know that he had great dunk contests and he knows what to do next. Good luck, Vince! :D
