Rondo Denies Report Of Being Recruited By Anthony

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Dec 11, 2013 3:32 pm

Rajon Rondo dismissed comments from his former high school coach, Steve Smith of Oak Hill, that he's being recruited by Carmelo Anthony to join the New York Knicks.

“People talk, media talk, people make up rumors, people run with them,” said Rondo.

“I haven’t spoken to him. He ain’t contacted me. It’s just rumors.”

Rondo is eligible for free agency in 2015.

Rondo probably got recruited by Anthony and the knicks because they are the only franchise stupid enough to sign him to a super max deal in free agency. When Rondo is a free agent in 2015, he will be elgible for a 5 year 118 million dollar deal with the celtics or a 4 year 88 million deal with other teams. That is what Dwight Howard was eligible for this past off season based on the new cba and the fact he had played 9 seasons in the league already. Don't get me wrong, rondo is a superstar but his style of play does not warrant a 20M+/year salary. The most i'd offer him would be 15-16M per year. He can't generate sufficient offense for himself and he lacks a consistent jump shot. A healthy Deron Williams who makes a 20M/year salary is likely a better overall pg than rondo.

The key for Rondo's prospect in NY is Tyson Chandler's aging. They can form the most devastating pick and roll due, both offensively and defensively. Melo would provide spacing as a stretch four and shoot creation when isolation is needed, like in playoffs.

Cue Knicks fan saying "well of course he denied it. Why would he tell everybody he's coming to NY? He'll just surprise everyone."

lol Rondo was underpaid on his last deal, he's going to look to cash in and if the knicks are willing to pay more than the celtics, he's probably wearing orange and blue in 2015/16.

Rondo and Chandler are Finals material....both with rings that they got for being who they are.

Knicks have the money, just like Nets, lets just hope they go for guys who aren't +36.

Celtics just started a new rebuild, it is going to take 5 years to get ECF......If Rondo goes to NYC, he will get a turn around rate just as quick as LeBron to Miami.....I mean can anyone image Rondo running Melo and Chandler?!

Or it's that lots of players are overpaid, but that Rondo has the right contract for a player still wanting to make several millions each year but playing at the same with a title contender, which was the case for BOS the last seasons.

If he's like Parker, he can play for less than the Max, but have a very good team.
If he mainly thinks that he was underpaid, and prefer Max money, nut sure he will have a good team, especially with the new CBA.

Jeff Green >>> Melo

For this season at least.

So why would Rajon want to play with a dysfunctional bunch like the Knicks instead of staying home with a hard gritty Celtics team?

Take your recruitment to someone else Melo. Rondo to NYC ain't happening.
