Suns Seeking To Trade Draft Picks For A Star

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Dec 14, 2013 6:16 pm

The Phoenix Suns are looking to trade one or more draft picks in the 2014 NBA Draft for a proven star player who can make an immediate impact.

The Suns will have as many as four picks in June's draft and are not placing them off limits in potential trades.

“I think one of the things that’s important for people to realize is that we may not draft four players even if we have four picks,” McDonough said. “Our preference would probably be to maybe package a few of them. We’re obviously all looking for stars and we feel like we can put together a package as good, if not better, than any other team in the league if and when a star becomes available.

"That’s kind of generally what we’ve wanted to do, not only with our draft-pick situation but also with the cap space that we’ve acquired.”

Just looked at the picks PHX owns/potentially owns and they're not that great. Potentially a fringe lottery pick from Minny, the 21st, the 30th and a late second round. No way they land a star player even if they traded all 4 of those picks. Heck, as much as I'd like to see Derozan traded, I wouldn't trade him for those 4 picks.

Suns would have to trade, at a minimum, all 4 picks, Alex Len & Bledsoe to land a star player.

The Suns potentially have four #1 picks this year (2 more in '15) and "...are not placing them off limits in potential trades."

there are some rumors of the suns using one of their high 1st round picks, though not lotto, to possibly go for asik...not sure if the rockets will trade asik to a western conf team, but interesting to say the least.

Knicks keep Carmello Anthony. Suns stay as far away from him as possible. Yikes. 2 firsts, a second, and a good young player for a ball hog? Yikes. The only team that would trade that kind of swag for Melo would be the Knicks.

The Suns have their first rounder, the Pacers first rounder (lotto protected), Minnesota's 1st rounder (top 13 protected), and the Wizards first rounder (top 12 protected) for just this year and they have their own pick and the Lakers first rounder next year... I think 6 first round picks are quite a starting point to get somebody for the Suns to upgrade with, without even having to include Bledsoe, Len, or any other young talent that they're trying to build around.

Knicks send:
Carmelo Anthony
Iman Shumpert
Raymond Felton

Suns send:
Goran Dragic
Marcus Morris
Emeka Okafor
Archie Goodwin
Viacheslav Kravtsov
Wizards' 2014 1st rounder (Top 12 protected)
Pacers' 2014 1st rounder (Top 14 protected)
My lifetime better have a Knicks championship.

For what? This is dumb. Just wait until the draft or free agency. No need to rush to be contenders in the West. Phoenix has a bright future, and they do not need star players this season. Play w/ who you have.

Wait Robert Sarver still owns this team right? Maybe we can buy the pick outright...

Of course Derozan is a star player or better. Plus Toronto could add Amir.

What's funny is that I had lunch with Terrence Ross' agent yesterday. We talked about every possible scenario. Toronto never came up.

FOUR picks man in one year... Hows it dumb to trade them plus all their other players are young. Ever seen a team with 4 rookies? Pretty likely to be terrible. Smart to trade a pick or two for a team that has no experience or proven people at all, and still will have picks left in the draft.
