Kevin Ollie Willing To Listen To Interest From NBA

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri May 2, 2014 5:10 pm

Kevin Ollie is undoubtedly loyal to Connecticut after leading them to the National Championship, but sources tell RealGM that he'll listen to any interest from the NBA.

Ollie has been mentioned as a candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers.

He should be an NBA coach.

He has a close relationship with Kevin Durant. If they don't reach at least Conference finals, I can't see Scott Brooks coming back next season.

Knee jerk reaction...recipe for disaster IMO. I didn't get to study his coaching enough to really judge but this happens so much after huge national exposure.

The trouble w/ the Lakers is they'll never get over Phil. LA could use a new breed Coach. Ollie's a great choice as flava of the month.

He should go to the Wolves. He had a good experience as a player in MN (he was made team captain) and his connections are still probably intact since it was 2008-2009.

Unless Brooks gets fired in OKC, the job that makes the most sense for Ollie to be successful right away, is in Minnesota.

Less pressure and lower expectations (because Laker fans are delusional) along with a more talented roster with 3 very good and established players in Love, Pek, and Rubio (who are all either coming into their prime or will be within 3-4 years). As well as a player in Dieng who he most likely is very familiar with and not only showed that he could succeed at the NBA level, but probably would have been rookie of the year if he'd played enough through his first year (if you look at his numbers when he got significant playing time).

In LA he will have to put up with more pressure, higher expectations, and with a less talented roster.

Good luck with that unwinnable situation.

Unwinnable for right now. Every successful team has their dog days and eventually rise to the top. With a lottery pick and tons of cap space, the Lakers will be in good shape in no time... and no I am not a delusional Lakers fan who automatically thinks we will be granted K-Love or Irving lol.

They don't accept dog days for long in Laker land. With Kobe making his money, what is the plan for building a contender there? Hoping a star will want to come to LA and play 2nd fiddle next to Kobe until he retires?

That sounds fun! Or how about making a name for yourself with a team on the rise already and statistically should have been a playoff team? Ollie wouldn't have to do much to get 50 wins out of this Wolves roster, not sure that would be possible with the Lakers.

Ollie would make a name for himself right away leading a young Wolves team to the playoffs and it wouldn't take much work. Low hanging fruit, raises his stock right away in his first year.

If the Lakers have two more years of missing the playoffs, I would bet there would be a lot of pressure on Ollie, most likely questioning his job security (if he's not just fired outright).

With the Wolves he has a team that is poised to make an OKC like jump into the playoffs without major changes. With the Lakers he has to try to deal with a semi-rebuild with the highest paid player in the league who is past his prime and has had injury issues recently...and is 36...and knows it's his team until retires.
