Carter-Williams Confident He Won't Be Traded

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jun 5, 2014 4:34 pm

Michael Carter-Williams addressed a report that the Philadelphia 76ers have considered trading him this offseason.

“I didn’t even pay any attention to it,” Carter-Williams said. “I have a great relationship with coach’s and the GM’s here, you know, I’m pretty confident that I’m not going anywhere for a little while. I heard it and I didn’t really pay any attention to it.”

Carter-Williams was named NBA Rookie of the Year.

The report indicated that Carter-Williams could be moved if the team selects Dante Exum at No. 3.

Exum has incredible upside; however, trading MCW after winning ROY makes little sense to me. Exum has played well in international tournaments and shown great potential. That being said, it's quixotic to think that Exum will have the same type of impact MCW had his rookie year. I could be wrong, but trading MCW after the year he had would shock me. Bringing Exum up as a starter alongside MCW or put him in a sixth man role makes a lot more sense. A backcourt of MCW and Exum would be incredible. Both players can handle, score, create their own shot, and score in a multitude of ways. Why give up one when Philly can have both?

Doesn't matter- there's no way they are foolish enough to pass on any of the "Big 3" and take Exum.

The only issue I could see is if Wiggins and Parker are picked before Embiid.

The 6ers don't need Embiid, with Nerlens Noel playing his rookie season this season.

I could see they may trade MCW for a solid Wing piece, and go for Exum, but I think they got a Gem with MCW. Not worth trading. Also, doesn't give much confidence to other players who come into your franchise. Then again, it's all a business to some.

Would be a stupid move - only downside of this kid is injuries, other than that he was a steal for them. Get one of the top 3 names in the draft and keep this dude. Great young core to move forward with and become a force in the East.

Yeah makes no sense to trade him. Trade the pick down if you feel the best player available is not a good fit with MCW.

They did trade away a 22-yr old all-star pg last offseason, so who knows...

True but that PG has on a much bigger contract and they basically landed a deal they couldn't refuse based on the direction they were going. Trading MCW who has 3 cheap contracts years left makes far less sense.

Does anyone really know that Exum isn't as good as 1 or all of the 'big 3'? Scouts seem to love him but he's the biggest mystery in the entire draft to fans like us.

One thing is for certain, when we look back at this draft 3 years from now our opinions on all these players will be very different.

other then the draft picks and the hope that nerlens noel is a beast one day, MCW is literally the only thing they have going for them. of course they won't trade him.

Both players can't shoot a jumper...

I've seen Exum here in Australia and he is not a top 10 pick imo.

Any team taking him early will be making a big gamble and likely mistake.

This just screams of some beat writer trying to stir **** up. Why in God's name would the Sixers do this?

I don't see why Philly would do this. Even if they take Exum Carter-williams is tall enough to play SG.

What a dumb move taking Exum would be. MCW is a stud for one, but if Wiggins and Embiid are gone, and they are not terribly high on Parker, they'd be dumb not to take Vonleh.

Vonleh would be perfect running with them. Noel is still unproven, so it gives you the best big in the draft after Embiid, but if Noel is a stud, that gives you a great frontcourt to run with MCW and you get a shooter at 10.

That team would be fun. Taking a guard with that pick makes absolutely NO sense, especially if pg or combo guard.

MCW/Harris or James Young or Stauskas/?/Vonleh/Noel

If you take James Young at 10 he could play 3 then you trade Thad for shooter or take a 2 and trade Thad for a 3 or another pick to get a wing.

Or keep Thad and maybe deal him next year.

Wouldnt be shocked if they trade him; thats what bad organizations do. I lived in Philadelphia for years and they always seemed to make moves to piss the fans off.
