GM: Kobe Has 'Zero' Value On Trade Market

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Aug 23, 2014 8:36 pm

Kobe Bryant signed a two-year, $48.5 million contract extension last season, three weeks before he suffered a fractured left kneecap.

The contract, which the Los Angeles Lakers and Bryant signed by design to recognize Bryant's career, makes Bryant nearly impossible to trade even if the frachise tried.

“Zero. Look at that number. Who takes him?" one NBA GM said when asked about Bryant's value on the market.

Bryant’s plan is to retire in two years, though he says he reserves the right to change his mind.

Bogus article.

There are a handful of teams that would take Kobe simply due to the fact that their attendance would sky rise over night.

Well then he and the GM that signed Kobe to this contract have something in common then.

Kupchak already won 2 chips as Lakers GM. So which GM are you talking about?

But at least Kupchak has some sort of winning resume. Willing to bet the GM that said it hasn't won jack squat.

Now if the comment came from R.C Buford, Pat Riley or Donnie Nelson.....you know front office personnel that has actually won something then well the comment holds some serious weight. But guys that smart aren't going to comment on the Lakers business just out of shear respect for one another.

But GM's who pop off about that stuff only do it to make it seem like they know what they're doing, but what the hell does your team have to show for it ? And I know who those GM's are....so let's not front on that.

Yeah Kobe's deal hurt them this summer, but looking at it and being real about it the chances of them getting what everyone valued was slim and none. His deal is done when really the best FA class is available. So what the hell are we arguing ? And secondly who says the Lakers even will contemplate trading him ? This just shows that the bogus GM who made this comment is just talking out the side of his a**.

This article is absurd. A player can have a bad contract and still be traded. For example, Gilbert Arenas was traded. The question is just whether you can find someone with as crappy an asset or assets as you have. For example, the Nets would trade Joe Johnson for Kobe right now. The Knicks would trade Amare for Kobe right now and that's even with Kobe's contract being one season longer than Amare's.

In other news, water is wet.

The Knicks are also one of the worst run franchises of the last 10-15 years, how does that disprove the point?

especially if he was paired with Melo. It would be a media frenzy in NY if Kobe went there.

I heard this response a million times. So be theoretically Lakers trade Kobe and is horrendous contract to mystery team. Mystery team dresses Kobe for how many games 40 maybe 60. He might even hit a game winner but that's the peak attendants people wouldn't go back after that. Mystery team wouldn't make the playoffs. not to mention Kobe would take up more than half of the salary cap. During the off-season big free agents wouldnt want to go to mystery team because kobe on the roster just like how big names avoid the Lakers now. So I ask this question is it worth it to trade awat a franchise's credibility, legitimacy and equity just to "fill the seats" for a couple nights. These are some of the things you have to think about while being a GM.
