Durant Admits Paul George's Injury Triggered Withdraw From World Cup

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Nov 3, 2014 5:59 pm

Kevin Durant withdrew from World Cup of Basketball after watching Paul George horrifically break his leg in a Team USA scrimmage in Las Vegas.

At the time of the announcement, Durant claimed that George's injury had nothing to do with his decision to withdraw.

“It took everything out of me seeing that,” Durant later told friend Randy Williams and a Nike executive at his camp of George. “Everything I had to play for Team USA, that injury stripped it away from me.”

After Durant is shown reacting on court to what he called a “freak accident,” the scene shifts to conversation with Durant in which he says, “When you see something like that, so gruesome, in front of you, of course you’re going to think, ‘This could happen to me.’ ”

Then Durant might as well retire right now. Freak accidents can happen anywhere, any time. It can happen in practice, in the regular season, or in the playoffs. It's not something you can control, even if you play it safe.

So the 12 Team USA members + Korver, Lillard, Wall, Beal, Parsons, and Hayward all have more heart than this coward.

Kinda suspected it.

I think he means he won't be playing basketball unless he's getting paid to do so.

It's his right. Why would you potentially sacrifice millions of dollars by risking injury when you don't have to. Anyone calling him out should also call out anyone who decided not to play.

You guys forget KD already has two Gold Medals.
Last Olympics, and FIBA.

Lay off him. You don't see LeBron playing in FIBA.

He still got injured and had to have surgery even after pulling out: difference is he got injured for the team that pays him huge $$$. Luckily it wasn't (at least it doesn't seem to be for now) as bad as Paul George's injury. Part of sports or any other physical activity, can't really avoid it.

If it was an Olympic year Durant would have stayed. It's crazy the difference in TV audience / casual fan recognition between the World Cup to the Olympics.

This wasn't a reporter talking to his KD.

This was a FRIEND of KD's snitching to a reporter.

So

A) take it all with a grain of salt

and

B) what a RAT this friend is!

Sounds kind of lame to me. More like a cover up he knew nike and underarmor were going have a bidding war over him.

People complaining about him pulling out just need something to whine about. KD has put in his time representing our country and to the FIBA World Cup is whatever. It's not equilvalent to the Olympics nor the FIFA World Cup in importance so this is a no-brainer if you're Durant.

Oh so Durant wanted to make sure he got his $300 million guaranteed. Act like any of you wouldn't have done the same. Idiots.
