Heat Show Strong Interest In Trading For Brook Lopez

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jan 14, 2015 11:11 pm

The Brooklyn Nets continue to engage on Brook Lopez trade talks.

The Miami Heat have shown a strong interest in trading for Lopez.

Lopez has a player option for the 15-16 season and becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2016.

Miami wouldnt be trading Bosh or Luol Deng to get Lopez he's fallen a metaphorical cliff of trade valve since all the foot injuries. I'm sure Brooklyn would take almost any offer that involved draft picks

Billy Kings pretty dumb but maybe he's not that dumb?

Granger is washed up beyond useless. McRoberts is a ok role player. Chalmers has been exposed as a meh guard, plenty of those to go around so nothing special.

They are cutting salary, why do you guys think they need good players in return?

They will look for an unprotected first, young players on rookie deals, and expiring contracts.

Very basic stuff.

Don't even need a center right now, we need a better point guard that's not Norris Cole. Also, Brook wouldn't do **** for us...

Can't see this deal happening. Miami doesn't really have much to offer.

Bosh and Deng are both untradeable for various reasons. Bosh is the heat's franchise player and most valuable asset. Deng took less money and term to sign with the heat (pretty sure the lack of income taxes was considered) because he liked the role riley pitched to him. Also both deng and bosh likely have trade kickers they won't waive. Bosh may actually have also secured a no-trade clause since he was eligible for it when he chose to resign with the heat. It hasn't been reported but many details about bosh's contract have been blurred other than the fact he got a fully guaranteed five year max deal estimated to be around 118M. Bosh got enticing overtures from the bulls and rockets but chose to stay loyal with the heat. Some Bosh haters say he stayed for the money but bosh has left money on the table before and he is also durable (not injury prone) so he would have likely got another max deal down the road if he left Miami. Bosh was intent on staying with the heat way before lebron left - listen to past interviews he's had on espn and miami radio. Riley rewards winning and loyalty - look how mourning and wade have been treated in the organization. Bosh is the only attraction aside from wade's leadership and willingness to take home discounts to contend that the heat have in trying to recruit major free agents like marc gasol next summer and durant in 2016 to rebuild their squad as a contender. As for this brook lopez talk - the heat probably think he can help them be a better playoff team while also maintaining their financial flexibility - similar to how they acquired jermaine oneal from the raptors the summer prior to the 2010 nba free agent bonanza. The nets are definitely going to have to trade one of their big 3 and possibly trade/buyout garnett in order to avoid paying the luxury tax this year and the repeater tax in the future. The owner is adamant on selling the team now and they have already mortgaged their future picks so if they are a repeater tax team going forward with their abysmal payroll than the value of the team will depreciate even more.

I'd rather have Bosh and Luol Deng.

Brook's stock has fallen over the last three seasons. He has yet to reach his true potential due to injuries. His ceiling is much higher than he's actually been able to accomplish. If he can't manage to stay healthy or if his body can't manage to keep it together, I don't think he'll ever reach his prime (his true prime anyway).

The Nets are on a sell high window, that stock drops every single season. By the time he hits 30 he'll be a backup center, on a contending team.

Whiteside on the other hand, should be Miami's priority for development. He has more upside on the defensive end than Brook can produce for them in the future. I think Miami's main concerns are PGs and SGs to alleviate stress off of Wade. The more load they take off his back, the better he'll perform in the post season.

The Lakers offer Jordan Hill and a future 2nd round pick for Brook.
