Nets, Hornets Discuss Trade Involving Joe Johnson, Lance Stephenson

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jan 26, 2015 5:24 am

The Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets have restarted trade discussions that involve Joe Johnson, according to sources.

The Hornets and Nets are discussing a larger package that would likely include Lance Stephenson, Gerald Henderson and Marvin Williams.

Charlotte owner Michael Jordan has been intrigued with the possibility of Johnson, who has struggled recently with tendinitis.

This isnt as bad of an idea that people think for the Bobcats. Lance isnt worth the money or the years, this gives the Bobcats a scorer now and frees up money after next season.. It really is a win win for the Bobcats

i think this would be a sidegrade for both teams, i dont see this making either one of them much better, at least not in time to get them into the post season

No 1st round pick? Not even two 2nds? Then get lost Charlotte. We all know how much of a disaster Lance has been.

Said this trade should have happened a while ago. Makes sense.

So Charlotte wants to gut their bench just to add a fading 33 year old with a massive contract? That's both desperate and dumb.

Technically yes but he has more power than the GM since he's his boss.

Is Joe Johnson going to help Hornets move the needle in the East short term?. They will finish 7th or 8th so why take on the risk of depleting depth adding the aging Johnson (34 in June)

Lance is not as good as we though he could be without PG13 or DWest (veteran) holding you responsible for silly actions. He is a good 2nd-3rd option, but to lead a team of his own? Takes much more than ear-blowing and being a complete d*&^ to your teammates.

BKN would be getting easier to move contracts. That's their consolation. They understand Johnson is a burden of a contract and the value to get in return will be very little.

I think it's more to add a vet who knows how to win.

I think it's good trade for the Nets. Stephenson is only 24 and it's worth taking a chance on him IMO with no young assets a nd they get younger and can dump a lot of salary with the other players. Johnson is the one that's grossly overpaid and will be next year as well. I'd take the extra year of Lance at 9 million as young as he is. He'll be at his peak at 27 years old then as well when most player peak.

I would not trade a literal bag of crap for Joe Johnson.

Rapidly declining skill set? Check.
Worst contract in the NBA? Check.
Injury problems? Check.

So next year Jordan wants to pay a 34 year old role player 25 million dollars? In what world does that make sense?

Brooklyn is currently 8 games below .500. Lance won 56 games with his previous team. Just sayin'.

Stephenson is one of those glue guys who you need on a great team, not the type of player you start a franchise with.

When you are the Net's and 100 million or whatever crazy in the Luxury tax, with that old poor roster, and with no 1st rounders for years he's exactly what you need as a 24 year old gamble and more importantly breaking up Joe Johnson's 25 million into much more manageable and moveable contracts. This would be one of the few great trades they have made in recent years IMO. Nearly a win for them and their situation all around.
