Rajon Rondo Planned To Sign Max Contract With Lakers Before Mavs' Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Apr 22, 2015 3:13 pm

Rajon Rondo had planned on signing with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent in the summer when it became clear that he no longer had a future with the Boston Celtics, according to sources.

Rondo expected a maximum contract to be signed.

When the Dallas Mavericks traded for Rondo, he was open to re-signing with the franchise. Rondo reportedly hasn't given up on that possibility despite the issues that have arisen, but sources say he won't return if Rick Carlisle is retained as head coach.

With how poorly Rondo has played since going to the Mavericks and since his ACL injury, a maximum contract is almost uncertain to be offered to him.

LOL. Rondo will be lucky to get an MLE offer from the Lakers this summer.

As much as I love Rondo... He's not what he used to be.

Ainge for Exec of the year?

thank goodness Clarkson turned out to be a relevant player, I would severely question Mitch/Jim iq if they gave this guy a MAX deal, he's not worth it, nothing from the last 2 season suggest he is worth it.

RIP English language.

How about "it's (becoming more and more) plausible that he will not be offered a max contract" ?

And of course he doesn't deserve it, and shouldn't get it.
I used to like him, but he's a ****, a spoiled brat, and a douchebag.

Any GM giving him the max deserves the McHale-Khan-Billy King-Isiah award.

I hope the Mavs don't fire Rick because Rondo "threatens" to not resign with them. They've had a lot of new pieces added (Parsons Rondo). It'll take time to figure it all out..

To Lakers,

Please don't sign this bum to the max. He's not even close to being worth it. He's not even a top 10 point guard.
On Gerald Henderson vs Derozan:
"Yes. Hendo is quite a bit better than DeMar.
So yes, I do believe he's currently the better player and do project that will continue to be in the future. I would also take Turner over DD."

They'd be idiots to choose Rondo over Carlisle. I doubt Cuban would even entertain the idea.

He was never good. Hell, I would argue that if he had not started his career with the Big 3 and the Celtics and instead started his career with any bottom dwelling team he would never have been hyped up at all.

I cannot players like Rondo and even Chris Paul for that matter that basically hog the ball the entire game and dictate every single play. I realize that is the job of a PG but I really can't stand watching Chris Paul dribble an entire game. Sure he's exciting sometimes throwing some nice lobs but other than that...

Uhh no. It's not a stupid correction - the way it's worded in the article is an insult to the English language. If you never care about grammar you're just going to sound uneducated forever.

I agree Rondo has a terrible attitude, but it's clear that the ACL injury is the reason that he regressed so much.

The real travesty is writers can spew whatever they want and simply add "according to sources" for legitimacy
Of course, these "sources" are rarely, if ever revealed.

Dallas is a sinking ship - a dictatorial coach who has proven he can't coach anyone under 30, and a team of aging stars, ballhogs and malcontents. Not a good fit for a playmaking PG. Don't kid yourself, Rondo is top 5 PG in the league and arguably the best pure PG not named Chris Paul. On the court Rondo is a fierce competitor yet as unselfish a playmaker as they come--routinely giving up his own scoring for the sake of making a pass to a teammate. He doesn't push to score 20ppg like the "modern" PG and would seemingly prefer to lead the league in assists (11th all-time in assists per game) and 4th all-time in team assist percentage (behind Stockton, Nash, Paul) rather than win a scoring title as some PG's are wont to do.

"According to sources" Rondo is going to have 20 teams calling him and will ultimately make the best decision for himself.

Come on man, it was a pretty egregious error. He's not trying to sound smart, the way it was worded was beyond awful.
