He is worth every penny. I don't understand how his deal got so big. Max caliber players who have been in the league a lot longer than him like Chris Bosh, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard did not get this much money on their 2nd or 3rd max contracts after their rookie deal. This is Davis' first max contract after his rookie wages. I get that the tv money and higher cap projections are playing a factor. Portland fans can sleep tonight despite likely losing Aldridge. Lillard and Davis are from the same draft class so he will be entitled to the same max extension and I don't see him leaving a sum that big on the table.

Damian Lillard is licking his fingers - expect a similar announcement for him which may make him the league's highest paid point guard in a season since many of the top point guards are already under contract.

I don't see New Orleans making it past the second round. He'll be one of those miserable superstars.

C: Anthony Davis
PF: Frank Kaminsky
SF: Andrew Wiggins
SG: Klay Thompson
PG: Michael Jordan

btw I will put Chris Mullin in Golden State to replace Klay Thompson.

Because it's 30% of a much bigger pie (projected cap of 90 million next year).

lol the only way hornets can become a contender is by building through the draft. If they get knocked out of the first round or barely miss it next season - they will have a three year window to tank for high picks and than use the fourth season of Davis' extension to attempt a long playoff run. Pelicans will never be an attractive destination for top tier free agents but they can organically build a contender though using the draft and international scouting like the spurs and thunder.

My bad, this dude can't get any ring anytime soon in Pelicans but He'll be close to his prime by the time the next contract rolls around (2020). Then he could make moves to teams that he can win with.

Lillard wont be eligible for 30% max. His 25% max contract should be $20-$25M lower than AD's. But, as you pointed out, he's still be making $3-$4M per more than CP3.

Wait 2yr, & Steph is going to be signing a big one.

Lillard will be eligible for the rose rule max if he makes the all nba team again next season - he made it in 2014. Even if Aldridge leaves and the blazers miss the playoffs, expect lillard to have a big year since money is on the line. Davis' max is assumed to be 5 years 145M because of his popularity and the near certainty fans will vote him as a starter again for the 2016 asg which satisfies the requirements for the rose rule.

At this point - it is the largest contract in nba history in terms of guaranteed dollars as it is using a projected cap figure for the 2016-17 season based on the new tv deal. If Lamarcus Aldridge and Kevin Love both resigned with their current teams at the full 5 year max this summer they would not get as much money as Davis since year 1 of their deals would be based on this year's cap.

You've obviously never been to New Orleans.

Especially from February - June.

One of the most exciting and entertaining cities in the country. Some of the best Food.

Avoid the bad parts, like any large city.
