Mavericks Pursuing Jeremy Lin

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jul 4, 2015 7:44 pm

The Dallas Mavericks have interest in Jeremy Lin in free agency.

Dallas is limited in what they can offer Lin, but he is giving strong consideration to signing there nevertheless.

Lin has a good relationship with Chandler Parsons from their time together with the Houston Rockets. Parsons is recruiting Lin as he did with DeAndre Jordan.

The Mavericks have a huge hole at point guard.

Dallas could waive-and-stretch Raymond Felton's contract to create a salary slot of $2.6 million.

Lin spent last season with the Los Angeles Lakers after being traded there by the Rockets to clear cap space.

Wouldn't be a bad fit but Harris is slightly better IMO.
Lin off the bench?

Seems like Parsons' value comes more from his recruiting than his on-court production.

What stat sheet are you looking at? Their career numbers are so similar it's scary! But Harris was an all-star for a season where Lin was an all-star for a week and a half. Lin has more upside but I still think they would be battling for the starting job.

Lin- FG% .437 / FT% .799 / ppg 11.70 / 3P% .349 / FIC 8.38 / Ast 4.76 / MPG 26.9
Harris- FG% .437 / FT% .798 / ppg 12.06 / 3P% .323 / FIC 8.33 / Ast 4.66 / MPG 26.8

See... that's weird!

Lin and Harris are pretty similar, though obviously at different stages of their career. They're both combo guards ultimately, and the Mavs definately need depth given that Mathew's health may be a real concern (and that they just don't have enough living bodies anyway.)

Of course, the context of system makes this hard to read, I think most people agree that Byron Scott either don't know what he was doing or was intentionally playing to lose (I mean, Ryan Kelly extensively at the 3? seriously?) while Mavs offense even made a few previously thought to be done guys look good. so there is at least the hope that Lin would look better with a system that is more ideal for him.

I'm guessing the deal would be a S&T for Felton and a 2nd rounder back to the Lakers for a little more money (and 3 years. which probably puts his deal around 3/18? ) but if Lin's willing to take less than that and they can spin Felton's contract for another living body, that would be cherry on top of the cake for the Mavs.

Nate Wolters and Ian Clark are two very efficient PGs Mavs should pickup. Cuban won't be disappointed.

Lin is a good ball handler, decent shooter, and a good Pick-and-Role type point guard. Having said that, having DeAndre do the picking and rolling can make Lin look like a star again
