RealGM Radio Podcast: Northwest Division with Steve McPherson, Ben Dowsett

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Aug 26, 2015 6:05 pm

Host Danny Leroux (@DannyLeroux), Steve McPherson of Rolling Stone /Grantland (@steventurous) and Ben Dowsett of Basketball Insiders / Salt Lake City Hoops (@Ben_Dowsett) discuss the NBA's Northwest Division - the Thunder, Jazz, Trail Blazers, Timberwolves and Nuggets.

The three recap the off-season (who got better and worse, rookies to watch, most interesting transaction) and preview the upcoming season including ranking the five teams and predicting how many will make the playoffs. They also discuss player development and the potentially changing role of the D-League.

These guys are so full of it.
We really don't grasp the value of Kanter, a guy who has shown in 27 minutes he can post nearly 20-10, low post scoring, very quickly, on a team that gets into scoring slumps? We really cant see the value here? And of course they try to minimize the drastic need for a guy like this by suggesting silly things like OKC is fine with their big 3. Ya, sure, when healthy it will get them to the WCFs on a regular basis. But will it win a title? No. you need that fourth guy to help ensure it.

Shumpert? OKC has had Shumpert, They have a Shumpert now, they tried to get him, failed and went with the potential upgrade. Works out or not and whether or not he develops as some expect, whatever, not a huge deal.

Haste? Are they honestly suggesting this was a "haste" move? Jesus man... With the Jazz they present this awesome narrative of a functional front office (which is the furthest from the truth), but with OKC they start questioning obviously correct moves to make?

How is the Jazz FO not a functional FO? Talk about full of it.

Kanter is a scoring and rebounding threat but he is horribly bad at defense. Ibaka is going to have to work his tail off to make Kanter even tread water on D.

Having said all that, the Thunder will be 1st in the NW and 3rd seed. The Jazz will be 2nd in the NW and the 7th seed.
