DeMar DeRozan To Opt Out, Feels Loyal To Raptors

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jan 7, 2016 3:32 pm

DeMar DeRozan plans to opt out of his $10 million contract next season with the Toronto Raptors, according to a source.

The Brooklyn Nets figure to pursue DeRozan in free agency.

“I can tell you he’ll opt out. But how he feels about Brooklyn — or anybody else — I can’t say. Only he can answer that,’’ said the source, who added that DeRozan feels he’s been treated well by the Raptors and “has a trait that’s been lost by so many players. It’s called loyalty.”

DeRozan is averaging 22.9 points per game.

He's going to Lakers or staying with Raps. If the latter, its going to take Im guessing a 5 year, $120 million offer from T.O. to get him to stay. It will all depend if Raps win a playoff series if the club is prepared to truly make him their franchise player long term.

Everyone always seems to predict that player A will go to the Lakers or Knicks. How often does it actually come to fruition?

SAS is living proof that you can throw 30 teams out there as a possible destination and take credit for getting the right team.

cuz no star wanna play with declining Kobe.

Knicks has no money to sign a star which will change next offseason i think.

anyways I think both of them have their sights on Durant so he will be most likely Plan B for most teams.

I don't think even big $$ can make him consider Brooklyn - they are going to be struggling for the next few seasons.

I mean he is worth more than the Raptors are paying but at the same time he's been coming short in clutch time so this would hard to justify giving him Superstar money when he's really a just a good player with the potential to hit Star level.

That's mainly because DD is from Compton, LA.
I doubt there is any chance he'll go to the Knicks, but the Lakers is hometown 4 him.

cause he's from compton. and he attended kobe's high school camps. this prediction is not that random. just like carmelo, his then-fiance, now wife (i think still), is based in new york. no one predicted lebron will go to new york. based on need and market, durant could be predicted for ny or LA. but washington or oklahoma or even toronto (his favourite team growing up because of VC) is more likely (more likely as in more likely than LA/NY, no need to respond with "no chance for raptors").

Masai needs to trade him so we don't lose him for nothing. The only way his loyalty claims will be satisfied is if the raptors pay him a 5 year max deal around 5 years 145M I think while other teams with cap space like Brooklyn will offer him 4 years 100M+ max deals. Raptors should deal him for a quality power forward who can stretch the floor for JV. If Raptors could pull some multi team trade where we land Ryan Anderson and picks for Derozan - I'd be happy assuming Anderson resigns.

If he felt so loyal to the Raptors, wouldn't he have opted in?

The Lakers front office will need some new mulligans once Kobe abandons ship. DeRozan feels like the logical choice: "The Lakers won't be able to move on until DeRozan does" just has a nice familiar ring to it.

and if he was loyal to the raptors that wouldnt matter

not saying he should be, but this whole tlak about players or teams being "loyal" is dumb
