Team Reneged On Promise To Draft Isaia Cordinier Early In 2nd Round

Isaia Cordinier had a promise to be picked by a team selecting in the late 30s or early 40s of the second round.

Cordinier asked teams not to pick him because he was guaranteed to be brought to the NBA immediately but the team reneged on the promise at the last minute.

Cordinier ended up being picked at 40th overall by the Atlanta Hawks.

Cordinier will likely sign a one-year deal in France and join the Hawks in 2017.

How could the team have been in the early 40s then reneged at the last minute and then he was 'ultimately selected' by the Hawks at #40 prior to this hypothetical early 40s team?

Because the article is wrong, he was the no. 44 pick.

The Hawks are stashing him in Europe for a year even though he had a promise from someone to play in the NBA this year. The article is purposefully vague to protect the integrity of the team that broke the promise. For all we know it could've been the Hawks to promise not to draft him.

I wish it was right though. He's super pissed about the team at pick 42 going back on their promise and not choosing him and they're all "um, you've already been drafted sir"

Wouldnt be surprised if he's called somehow this coming season ! After a great SL he could be a good bench asset or being part of a trade package
