Nick Young Undecided On $5.7M Player Option With Lakers

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Mar 31, 2017 6:18 pm

Nick Young might opt out of his $5.7 million player option for the 17-18 season after he rebuilt his value with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers considered using the stretch provision on Young last offseason, which seemed like a good idea at the time but would have been a mistake considering how well he's played.

Young is averaging 13.2 points on 40.4 percent shooting.

“I got a chance to play and show Nick Young again after going through everything I went through,” Young said. “That’s the best part of everything, being able to play. You think you won’t be in the league last year. Then you start 60 games.”

Young and his agent haven't decided what they'll do but he would prefer to stay with the Lakers.

“It’s L.A. I’m from here, family is here,” Young said. “I’ve been here for four years.”

If I were a betting man, I would say Young gets a contract worth more than the $5.7M owed to him if he were to accept the player option.

Ok we all know what to expect from RealGM. But that's 40% 3pt shooting.

Still, is everyone really lining up for a 6'7 guard who plays no D (statistically worse than Harden) and shoots 43% overall?

If Allen Crabbe can get $17 million a year, Young can easily get more than $5.7.

I know people hate on his contract but Crabbe was quietly the 4th best 3pt shooter in the NBA this year at 43.8%. Plus he's only 24 and he doesn't act a fool. His contract was on what he may become, not what he already is.

We already know what Nick Young is and he will never be better than he is today. I agree that he is worth more than his contract but I don't think Allen Crabbe is a good example of why.

As a Laker fan I sincerely hope he decides to opt out of his contract and signs elsewhere. Not a fan of his game or his personality.

Id like to see him on the warriors. He's made enough money, so come have fun and win some rings. He'd also be setting himself up for a much better career post basketball.
