Gilbert is a complete douche not allowing him to pursue other opportunities and then refuses to pay the guy afterwards. :banghead:

And Gilbert refused to let Griffin interview with Orlando when the position was open. Sucks to work for Gilbert. "I'm letting you go soon, but I won't let you talk to other employers until I actually lay you off." How nice of a man Gilbert is.

Since owning the team, Griffin has yet to extend any general manager he has employed.

Seems reasonable that Gilbert had every intention of keeping Griffin and they just couldn't agree on the terms/amount. Not seeing anything nefarious. Griffin will be JUST Fine.

Obviously Gilbert had no intention on paying Griffin market value, if he even had intention to keep Griffin.

Griffin will be fine. He will be fine without a GM job for a couple of years given how much these guys are paid.

However, it tells everything about Gilbert's character and the Cavs organization.

Gilbert knew he was not going to extend Griffin, because he knew Griffin will ask for more money. There is a good reason why Gilbert never did extend his GM, whoever it was. It was just low from him that he didn't allow Griffin to talk to Hawks, Magic and the Bucks, he didn't want to reinforce his competition so close to the draft.

Seems like Gilbert didn't want him leaving but perhaps money was an issue, as much as they say they had different philosophies going forward.
