Clippers Create New Courtside Seats Selling For $175k Per Season

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Sep 7, 2017 2:21 pm

The Los Angeles Clippers are creating eight additional courtside space for the 17-18 season by breaking up their long scorers table.

The Clippers aren't publicly disclosing the price, but a league source says they're asking for $175,000 a seat, which works out to $4,070 per game.

"It's extremely rare to have space like this open in any arena" Clippers president Gillian Zucker said. "What we did here was create new beachfront property."

The Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks have tickets that are more expensive.

"The seats can be seen on television, so it can be for someone who wants to be seen. It is, after all, Hollywood," Zucker said. "Companies, agencies or just a hard-core fan who wants to get closer."

Need John Oliver to pull the stint he did with the yankees where he bought seats behind home plate, and gave them out to viewers who most represented the "I have never sat in a premium location" vibe.

Makes sense for LA, but I wonder if small market teams will eventually do this somewhere down the line.
My all-time starting five: Hakeem Olajuwan, Michael Jordan, and three 3nD role players.

you kind of answer your own question there. LA, NY, CHI, MIA, BOS, GS can pull it off due to the size and income of the in-person base. a lot of towns can't swing this. you got teams doing $10 tickets trying to give them away, especially later in the season when said team has fallen out of playoff contention.

new seats may get built at premium prices, but the number will vary by market.

it would be refreshing if teams would set aside 1000 seats scattered throughout the arena to be sold at the same price as standing room. of course, they'd have to ID the original purchaser to avoid resale profiting

You'll never know. Perhaps a small market team that's contending for a championship can pull it off. It's a wait and see approach to what the demand is.

Kardashians?

Exactly. The upswing in Cavs tickets in the past couple years is total proof that smaller markets can definitely do it with the right team. The years post LeBron I was able to sit 6 rows back for about $100 a seat. Now with all the season ticket holders selling out, you're lucky if you get anywhere near the court at a descent price.

milwaukee already did this several years ago, but the tickets are less than half the price.

I remember Ballmer saying something like that. A new ticket system where Clippers control all sales. you cant profit of reselling the tickets you bought.
Some soccer clubs in Europe practice that. The issued tickets are electronic and to the person's name. If you bought a ticket for $100, you can sell that back to the club for say $70, and then club will sell it to another fan for $100, at face value. so only the club benefit from the resale, while keeping the prices for tickets at an affordable levels for general public.

Are they handing out cocaine and providing "escorts"? At that price, they should be.

Im just happy that steve ballmer still thinks he can make an extra buck on a team that is getting worse and worse every season.

Note to Steve: Clippers time running LA is just about up. It will be the Lakers city again starting 18-19.

Get that billy Crystal money while you can.
