Phillies Willing To Pay Part Of Hamels' Salary In Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Apr 29, 2015 12:43 pm

Ruben Amaro revealed on Tuesday that the Philadelphia Phillies are willing to pay a portion of what is owed to Cole Hamels to facilitate a trade.

Hamels is owed $96 million through 2018, and possibly $110 million with his 2019 option.

"We are very open-minded," Amaro said. "We're not afraid to subsidize contracts. We never told a club that we would not absolutely subsidize his contract. That is not a realistic way to do business.

"If there's a deal to be made, and we have to subsidize part of it, we'll do it."

The Phillies have been looking for top-level prospects in return for Hamels.

What the Phillies need to do is reduce the number of prospects they want and attach Ryan Howard to Hamels. Then they can finally start rebuilding.
