The Washington Nationals have called the Toronto Blue Jays to ask about the availability of Jose Bautista, reports Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post.
Bautista will be a free agent this winter and has more than 10 years of Major League service time, including more than five straight with the Blue Jays, which gives him the ability to veto any trade.
He returned to the Blue Jays on Monday after missing more than a month with a turf toe injury.
