The Washington Nationals and a number of other clubs have inquired with the Pittsburgh Pirates about Mark Melancon.
Washington is known to be looking for a late-inning reliever. Jonathan Papelbon has allowed seven earned runs over his last three appearances.
Melancon is earning $9.6 million in the final year of his contract. He has a 1.51 ERA in 41 2/3 innings this season.
